anyone else in a 1 b/r apt
So we are living with my parents in an apt upstairs to save for a house. It's a 1 b/r. It's big (and my parents lived up there with me until I was 3) so it's definitely manageable!
Right now the room is divided with her crib and 3 drawer dresser on one side and our stuff on the other.
Those living in 1 b/r apt, how are you officially dividing the room? I'm trying to think of what to put there to divide it..
I also need some ideas for space savers. Right now we have the 3 drawer dresser for her...but we need more storage type things.
WOuld love to see pictures or hear ideas...we have sooo much stuff (that is needed), and I'm stressing over where to put it and how to organize it in our space.
Thanks!

Re: anyone else in a 1 b/r apt
We were in a 1 b/r until last week! I had a contractor put up a wall to make a tiny nursery (I live in my dad's building:). We had a really big room and decided to split it. At first, my husband didn't want to put up the wall and thought about putting those screens from floor to ceiling from IKEA. I was really contemplating that except we had put a ceiling fan in the middle of the room. The guy had to put the ceiling fan in a different spot then a mini chandelier in the middle of the baby's new room! I looked into those Japanese screens from floor to ceiling or just the regular screens.
For storage, we have 2 walk-in closets in the bedroom so one became the baby's and mine while the other remains my honey's and extra storage. We also put the bed on a different bed frame (really high one) and we fit SOOOO much underneath!!
We live in the city so I'm really good with storing and hiding stuff. Take a look at container store! They have everything there!

Re: anyone else in a 1 b/r apt
we are also in a 1 bedroom. Our living area is huge but I do not want the crib or any of the babys dressers to be out there. Our room is really small and barely have enough room for our own stuff !! If we dont do any renovations which we prob wont, we will get rid of a dresser and replace it with the crib. Im thinking of getting bins to put underneath the bed, and maybe a nice armoir that looks like real furniture to put in the living room if need be.
Im not registering for any really big items and baby will go right into the crib, no bassinet. I have been looking in to small detachable changers because I def want the changing area to be in the bedroom, not in the living room.
I lived in a small 2 bedroom apt with my parents and sister until I was 17 so I know it can be done. It's not what I wanted for my first child but I am just happy to be having a lil one !

We are having the crib in the bedroom.
We made a space in the living room for a dresser and a changing table.

Re: anyone else in a 1 b/r apt
We are in a 1 bedroom and we have a huge living room dining room combo so we changed our dining room into the babys area. We have a crib, dresser, chest and night stand. We also have a glider and swing in that area. It's big enough to be a room for the baby but there is no divider. One of our couches split the living room/dining room so that's really the only dividing factor. We originally thought about getting one of those room dividers but it would just take up extra space. We were looking to move but with me going out on maternity leave and not having my full salary we decided to wait until after I go back to work to look for a house. Our bedroom is really tight right now, the bassinet is taking up so much room! The bassinet is on my side of the room which is the far side and I am having trouble now getting around and that's just me without the baby in my arms. So I need to do more work in the bedroom.
You are lucky to have a big bedroom to fit all of that for the baby.

We also rose our bed too but we already have that packed to the brim with out stuff so we have no more for storage under there. Another idea...I got rid of a bunch of my stuff that I don't use. I have a shelf on the top of my closet and I am using that for the baby. I put diapers and things I don't need immediately up there.

Re: anyone else in a 1 b/r apt
Thanks girls! I definitely want to go to the container store and check it out. Do they only have that in the city? Our bed is up high, but right now it's packed with my hubby's stuff. Same with our little doggy closets (we're in a cap). I need to get him to clean out those closets and under the bed because I'm sure we can use that space.
Good to see I'm not alone!
It's tough and not ideal, but I keep reminding myself she doesn't need a lot right now anyway except our love, diapers, and milk!
Where should I look for screen dividers? IKEA, anywhere else?

Re: anyone else in a 1 b/r apt
I hav e been meaning to take pictures to show what we did.
Basically, we got the idea from Nate Berkus when he had Rachel Dratch on. We are using screen dividers. Our headboard is on one side while DS' furniture is on the other side. It is great! DS has his own space and we have privacy. I can adjust the screens so I can peek in on the baby from bed.
Here's a picture of what he did. Ours is so similar except we used screen dividers from Hayneedle.

Re: anyone else in a 1 b/r apt
You don't need EVERYTHING - the baby needs so little especially the first 6 months -I know so many that have done this with a 1 bedroom or less apt. Register for the absolute minimum.
raise your bed- fit lots under.
declutter your space and closests- this is difficult with my husband- he won't let anything go- hopefully urs is better.
I'd go to Ikea for the screens...also they have really tiny furniture if you need anything for you or baby.
We store things (non-valuables) in our trunks.
instead of a regular kitchen table, we have a counter with cabinets underneath.
every piece of furniture needs drawers - even end tables. Everything you own needs storage abilities
congrats on the baby!! good luck!

Thanks! I'm almost 35 weeks and have been trying to get my hubby to declutter the closets since March! hahahah
he's getting better, but he has sooo much stuff. My parents are letting us store some things in the basement which is great. I just cant carry everything down there right now, so hopefully this weekend I can get him to really declutter!
Thanks for the tips :)

There are two Container Stores in the city. There used to be one in Manhasset but it closed :( It's a great store and they have containers and storage ideas for everything! Good luck!
