Furniture Question

DH and I sold our Condo and are moving out really soon! We are renting for a year or two (probably two) while we save more money and look for a house. We have to buy some furniture (that we did not need in our condo) for this new place. We do not know what to do. I have always said that when I buy a house I want to buy all new furniture. So do you think we should buy cheap stuff now that will last us the 2 years we are here, or start to buy better furniture that will last us a while?

My opinion would be to buy the cheaper stuff now bc we never know what style we will want for a house 2 years from now, but Im worried its a waste of money.

Any thoughts, opinions?

Re: Furniture Question

We did the same thing (apt for 2 years to save for our house). We bought what we needed to hold us over from Craigslist & tag sales. Glad we did, we never would have been able to predict what furniture we would have needed, sizes, etc.

Re: Furniture Question

Defintely go to garage sales and craigslist. We got our bedroom furiniture from CL and only paid $350 b/c the people needed to get rid of it asap. We also got a beautiful dining table with 6 chairs for $250! We are buying a house now and I am so excited to be able to get new NICE furniture. You can make due for know on the cheap. GL!

AND you can always re-sell whatever used stuff you get down the road from CL & tag sales (for pretty close to what you paid) when you buy the new stuff Chat Icon

Re: Furniture Question

I would get cheap stuff but really cheap.

Even target/Ikea new items can really add up.

It will also save you money when you eventually move if you only have the boxes/household items and less furniture.
