Do you fertilize your lawn?

Do you fertilize your lawn?
Do you do it or do you hire someone?
How do you know if you need this done?
My lawn is green, but does it need to be maintained besides just me putting on the inground sprinkers?
If you hire someone, how much is it and how much property do you have?

I do it myself with Scotts Turf Builder plus Halts. If it's in the low 70's for about a week, spread it down on the first day. If its too hot it can burn the grass. And no rain in the forecast for 5 days

Me too. I got one of those hand held spreaders and did it myself in March. Just as an FYI if you need to put down new grass seed make sure to do the weed and feed early enough in the year (February/March) in order to be able to put down the new seed in May/June. I did not do it until March 20 so I will have to wait until June 20 to put down some new seed. I wish that the weather cooperated better but it is what it is.
I put down a Winter, Spring, Summer and Fall feeding/weeding application as appropriate.

same as above posters..I mean I watch DH do it bc I have horrid allergies. If our lawn was in bad shape we would hire someone but it's just slightly ugly.

Yes, DH does it every spring. He buys the one the landscapers use. Works great!

I use home-made compost and fertilizers from
http://www.gardensalive.com/default.asp
The stuff from Gardens alive might be pricier (i've never compared) and composting might require extra work, but it's free. Also I like the idea of returning kitchen and yard waste from where it came.
IMO lawns and gardens get addicted to chemical fertilizers and you're almost forced to use them year after year. Unless you want a golf course like lawn, the few clippings that fall while you're mowing should be enough. Maybe, you might need to occasionally spot compost.
