Need Negotiating advice - Cable vs. Fios
So my neighbor just switched to Fios and it paying $92 month for 3 boxes, Internet/Phone. 1 box has DVR. We are paying $175/month for the same. I really don't want to go through the hassle of switching. Has anyone called Cable and threatened to switch to Fios and have been succesful in getting their monthly bill reduced? I'm not a good negotiator so I wanted some advice before we make the call to Cable.

I called, but wasn't really in the mood to fight. Ultimately I got my bill reduced $7/month  and got some free movie channels.

DH is usually the one that handles that stuff for us...he's real good at negotiating 
Unfortunately I don't think much will help b/c IMO overall Fios just has better deals and service too. But you could always use the "i've been a customer for ___ long" and "I always pay my bills on-time" and that you're not happy with the service lately and you're thinking about switching b/c you can find a much better deal.

i've had both and prefer fios. when i switched from fios to cablevision, fios could care less about the better rate i was getting. they couldn't match it. when i switched back after getting a great offer (why couldn't they give that to me initially??? ) cablevision was willing to match that.

We switched to FIOS and then went back to cable - they were able to give us an awesome deal.

Both DH and I did (on our respective accounts before we lived together) and neither of us got anywhere.
I still have my house and still have Cablevision but in our (DH's) house we switched to FIOS. Cablevision hounds us constantly to switch back but they can't beat the deal we got - at least not by enough to justify the switch.
Cablevision seems to not be willing to work with you until after you disconnect. I don't understand this strategy; I would think it would be more cost effective if they satisfied the customers they have rather than let them go, then send sales reps door to door trying to hook them back.

They offered to lower Cablevision when we first called to cancel a little bit but after we had FIOS for a week, Cablevision offered us an even better rate! However at that point, we were so happy with Fios we didn't care.

same here. but we're going back to Fios now.
Same, Cable gave us a better rate so we switched back to them, but we really liked Fios so much more. Fios gave us a decent deal so we are switching back even though cable is a bit cheaper.
