Renovation Help Needed (pix added)

We are in the process of purchasing a Split Level home. Do any of you have any ideas as to how we should renovate the kitchen??

We were planing on keeping the exisiting cabinents & refinish them, but we wanted to change the layout of the appliances and possibly open half the wall into the dinning room.

Any have any ideas, comments or reccomendations are always appreciated

I would post these on Rate my Space (HGTV website) I did this w/my bathrooms and there were some very imformative ppl that gave me ideas (some were in the biz too) hth's Good luck!!

Personally I don't know too much about kitchens but I would paint/refinish the cabinets white to brighten up the room, new countertop and backspash (something neutral) and maybe if you can open the wall up to the dining room

you have SO much that you can do in there!

I wouldn't paint them white. they look like they are in good condition. I would restain them if anything..

I would open up the wall and put a big island in the center.. you can move around the appliances to whatever you want.. you can put the stovetop in the island or sink on the island with.. if you put the sink in the island, you'll need to put the dishwasher there as well.. you can then put the frig where the stove?

another idea would be to do a breakfast bar with stools?

I can't really see the entire kitchen by the pictures you posted though.

My mom has a split with an extension and the kitchen is all open. There is a very wide doorway (like triple a regular doorway) from kitchen into the dining room and the rest is all open to the family room extension (with breakfast far & stools in between).

I've been in a lot of the neighbors houses (all splits) and they all did different things with knocking down walls, etc. I'd try to meet some neighbors and go into their houses, especially if they have been renovated recently and see what they did.

ETA: I would try to move the sink if anything, it seems kinda tight under those cabinets.

Wasn't there a thread not too long ago about split level kitchens/dining rooms? I'll do a search and see if I can find it and bump it for you.
