Some more shellac questions
For the ladies who've gotten shellac:
1) how often do you do it? (once for special occassion, every 2-3 weeks)
2) if you've had it for a while, how long, and what condition are your nails in?
I just got in on Friday and I'm loving it so far.

Re: Some more shellac questions
I was getting it every 2 weeks for about 3 months, I only stopped to save some $$, the last time I removed it my nails were fine and I had no damage....enjoy!

Re: Some more shellac questions
Ive only done it once on Easter, so its been 9 days and they look AMAZING, as if they were just done. Still shiny and no chips at all-- but there is regrowth, personally I dont mind it.
My cousins shower is the 3rd week in may, so Im going to remove these in another week or so (whenever they start looking bad) and get it fresh for the occasion.

Re: Some more shellac questions
i don't do it every time, I do it for special occasions. I did it the week before Easter and now I will get it done again at the end of this week for my niece's communion. I would get it every 2 weeks if I didn't think the $30 was a big deal, but it is for now.
While it doesn't chip, I find that after 10 days or so, they start to "bubble" near my cuticles, and that makes it so east to just peel the polish off. I've had it done a few times and it never lasts the two weeks, I always get the bubbles and peeling after 10 days.

I believe the salon by me does the CND shellac for $20 or $25.

How is it different than OPI Gel Nails?

Its the removal. its so not the same.
it literally flakes off instantly. I will admit though, def some damage from it but its because they file.
if you just let them soak and untouched, they should be fine.
ETA: I also will say that it dosent last as long either. for me 2wks, I def have a lot of chipping. it does last longer than a typical mani.

Re: Some more shellac questions
I'm on week two of the shellac and am very impressed.. (I got this last shellac done on April 21st; so it's day 13)
I went to 1 place for the first time and it looked good but it peeled and lifted and I was ticked about it..
no damage to my nails at all.. (And I don't have the best nails to begin with)
I read online to put pure acetone on cotton and place it on each nail and wrap in aluminum so that's what I did on the nails that i wasn't able to peel off myself after the horrid job.. they literally came right off and my nails were fine..
I went to another place and got them done and now I know what the rave is about
Here are pics from week 1 and now on week 2..
First pic is on day 5 of the shellac
Second is just now

Re: Some more shellac questions
1) If I have time and money, every 3 weeks. Otherwise I can let it go a while.
2) At around 3 weeks the edges look like they will start to peel. If they bother me too much I peel off the shellac myself. If I don't pick at it, they'll look pretty good for 3 whole weeks.
I notice it depends on how much they buff/file your nails. It will never peel on the tip, always at the spots that get the least buffing/filing.
