Moths!

We've been in our new house for a little over 2 months and in the past week we're now noticing lots of moths. I think between DH and I we've killed maybe 20. I have no idea where they're coming from, it's so bizarre and I've never had a problem like this before! The worst part is DH wears suits to work and we're scared that they're going to start eating them Chat Icon !

Has anyone dealt with this before? Any ideas why or where they could be coming from? They're not even all the same kind of moth, I've seen both ones with flat wings and ones with standing wings. I hate the idea of moth balls so we're going to try cedar chips. Any other suggestions? Ugh, this is so gross and annoying! TIA!

Oh wow, I didn't know moth balls are bad for you! I know they smell god-awful so I don't want to use them anyway, but now I have double reason! I have a 4 week old baby here so I don't want anything hazardous around either! I did find this link online, now I'm paranoid about all the food in my house . . .

Re: Moths!

My parents had this problem. They were apparently coming from the dog food and/or the "fake" greenery they had above their kitchen cabinets. Someone also told them to seal all their cereal/rice/flour/sugar goods in airtight containers.

Re: Moths!

We had*(hoping they don't come back this year they are VERY hard to get rid of) the silver moths we set up a trap like this up high out of reach of the little ones, in our pantry. It caught a lot of them but the thing is usually they are in some sort of food...we ended throwing out everything in our pantry and wiping down the shelves in white vinegar. Even now I won't put any dry goods in our pantry in all goes in the fridge it freaks me out that they could lay their eggs/larva in there and it's very hard to see with your eyes. They have one for closet/clothes eating moths too.

Re: Moths!

I had moths last year but they werent pantry or clothes moths, so they werent food or clothing related, they were "outside" moths and there was nothing Terminix could do about them.
I think they were coming in through the attic. We bought moth traps from Ace Hardware and put them in the attic. I also bought cedar moth balls b/c they are safe and put them in the attic. Moths dont like lavender or bay leaves so I put a lot of bay leaves out and kept spraying lavender spray all day! They finally went away! I hope yours go away soon!

I had this problem when I moved into my apartment. I sealed all the pasta and flour in zip lock bags so the moths wouldn't get in. I finally figured out that they were coming from the light fixtures. I cleaned all the fixtures and we never saw a moth again.

I was told that cedar only works to keep them from coming but won't do anything if they are already there. Don't know how true that is, but that's what I heard.

I had this problem when I moved to new place. The previous tenants left open food in pantry and I had small moths. I killed them, sprayed down, and closed my foods like FT knox. I put out the pantry pest thing. I still get like one a day. I dunno why. I even watched as one wen tin trap and out lol.

SHould I wipe it down with pure bleach now?

Cedar works for the clothes eating moths not the pantry ones.
