I think it's for comfort reasons. Some people may prefer underwire though. I bought two nursing bras so far and the underwire one was really uncomfortable for me even though my regular bras are underwire and I have no problems with them.

Wearing an underwire increases the risk of developing a clogged duct, which is why it is not recommended. I wore an underwire here and there before I found out it was not good and never had issues, but I've heard of a lot of women who did.

I thought so too! But then I discovered Bravado nursing bras- amazing!! No underwire, SO comfy, and tons of support if you're large chested. I also hear Anita bras are great for busty nursing mommas.

You have to remember, bra manufacturers aren't necessarily experts on nursing and lactation- they just want to sell a product!

They say it contributes to clogged ducts, especially if they bra doesn't fit perfectly.
I am large chested and tried non-underwire bras at first. I was uncomfortable and did not think that they offered enough support. I tried to wear the underwire bras just to see if they caused any issues and I have been totally fine.

It can give you clogged ducts. I get them once in awhile and they're terrible.
