What would you make of this comment?
I went to Kohl's with my Mom, which is a store I never go to. They had the Lauren Conrad collection and I bought a pair of "skinny" cargos and a cute, flowy shirt.
When I wore it, my Mom said "That's so you, very subdued".
What????? I try to dress classy, fairly trendy. I am not 20 any more, but I don't think I dress old.

i don't think I would take subdued to mean old. I would just take it to mean like you don't wear crazy over the top stuff.

Unless your mom is a backhanded complimenter, I wouldn't take subdued as being old either. It's not flashy. I don't dress in a "Look at Me!" style either.

I think she means laid back, casual, not so stuffy.

ITA. You know your mom better than we do so there could be subtext there, but taken at face value, I don't think dressing in a "subdued" way is a bad thing.
