tell me about your perennials
what perennial flowers do you have in your yard, do you love them/hate them? are they high maintenance?
we want to plant some border flowers in front of the house and I'm trying to get ideas. I'm also debating planting creeping phlox around our tree.

Re: tell me about your perennials
I have some Phlox that I planted last year and I love it - Mine hasn't started creeping yet. I have a bunch of Perennials on the side of my house but I am unsure of the names other than the tulips which are starting to bloom now. I also just ordered a purple leaf perennial that will bloom white flowers in the summer.

Re: tell me about your perennials
I have a side garden that is very low maintenance it's great. Phlox, echinechea, shasta and they are in between rose bushes. They are all summer blooming, but I also have daffodils/narcissus for the spring and montauk daisies for the fall in the same bed. All I do is weed a little.
I also like delphiniums, hibiscus, lilies (super easy, spreaders and easy to move)

I love my irises (sp?), any daylillies, and peonies. They are very little work to maintain and love the variety.

Re: tell me about your perennials
I have an Ever Blooming baby blue Hydrangea, and I love it!!! I do have to add more acid to our soil to make them blue. Otherwise they turn pink, lavender, green, also pretty, but not my favorite. I want to plant more colors/types, because I pick them in the fall, stick them in a vase, and they dry beautifully, as long as I don't pick them too early, then they shrivel up. My DH planted hyacinths all over the place, and I don't care for the locations. I think I'll ask him to move them in the fall. I had tulip bulbs planted, by our mailbox, but the little critters like to eat them. I want to send for some of those pink/white "butterfy" daffodils. Mary

Erica, I bought Deb and Fred a beautiful hibiscus for in front of their townhouse, and it's huge now!!! Maybe I should plant some of those too!!! Mary

Re: tell me about your perennials
Last year we planted two mandevillas on the sides of our front stairs they were so beautiful and bloomed all spring, summer and early fall. They grew up our pole that we had hanging plants on. We got compliments all the time, I wish I had a picture. Mandevillas
