Holes, bribes, replacements, blood, sweat and tears Chat Icon

DS1 who just turned 3 was ADDICTED to his collection of binkys - hand and mouth

It took nearly a yr of attempts and then one day, one bribe worked. $10 under his pillow from the binky fairy to be used at Chuck E Cheese. Oh the drama to get there, but finally something worked!! This was only about 2 months ago!

We waited until he was ready to give it up and then told him big boys don't use binkies. He told us big boys don't take naps. So we called it even. But he had just turned 3 so he really didn't need the nap anyway Chat Icon

Cold turkey at 2 years. They were only using it for naps/bedtime at that point, and one day we just took it away.
DD screamed for 3.5 hours the first night, DS was fine. The second night DD cried for about 10 minutes. After a week they didn't even ask for it anymore.
When they saw the new baby with one 2 months later it was like they didn't even really know what it was.

Waited till he(DS#1) was ready and he gave it up all on his own right before turning 4. He ONLY had it for bedtime anyway. My other 2 kids never used one.

When DS was 18 months, he had his first dentists appt. After that, we told him the dentists had taken his paci. He's never asked for it since, so cold turkey was the way to go for us.

The mid-night plugging in x's 10 was getting very very out of hand.

At 8m I stopped giving it to him during the day, and he was using it only for sleep and naps.

At 12m I took it away cold turkey, he cried - more like whined for less than 5 minutes and went to sleep. He whines a bit now before going to sleep, but I think he's just blowing off some steam and clearing his head.

At 11m I tried to poke holes, cut it, he would scream, but a very different cry than the "im so tired" cry. It was just too dramatic for me. I couldn't handle it.

I waited a while till he was reliably drinking from sippies and plan to soon go cold turkey from bottles. He only gets one bottle at night. Someone on here said for their baby it seemed related, for mine it seemed to be too.

DS lost it, so he had to go to bed without it. I later found it, but kept on that it was still lost. Hasn't had it since.

Cold turkey at 20 months. It was helped along by a case of cox sackie but we had repeated questions of "where is fire?""need fire!"

We answered "Pacifier is all gone."

1-2 weeks & the transition was complete.

Santa Claus took my DD's to give to little babies who needed them and gave her toys in return as thanks! Chat Icon Chat Icon

worked like a charm...never looked back!

Now my DS iis going to be harder bec he will be older for Christmas..SO I am not sure...but they stay in his crib at all times so he only sees them for naps and bedtime...but two of the three have holes in them so he really only uses the one good one left..I may use the hole idea this summer when his time is up! Cold turkey with both kids. One was two the other was just over a year. Both were addicted to it and were fine within 24 hours of going cold turkey. It really wasn't as bad as I expected it to be. The anticipation of how bad it would be was much worse Chat Icon
