If you already owned a home and moved...

How much of a royal p.i.t.a. Is it? Lol

Between selling your house, buying the new one, PACKING, etc?

We are thinking about it. We've been here almost 7 years and feel that it's what seems right.

But it just seems so daunting!!

Re: If you already owned a home and moved...

We bought a new house and closed 1.5 weeks after the twins were born. 3 weeks after that we closed on the house we were selling. If we survived that with NB twins and a 2 yr old, you can definitely do it. Chat Icon It was stressful and a big PITA and honestly now its a big blur to me because we were just so busy and working on no sleep.

It really really helped to have those 3 weeks overlap with buying and selling. Not sure if you can do that or it you need to sell your house first in order to buy the new one, but if you can swing it, it makes everything so much easier. I can't imagine closing on both the same day, especially with having kids.

We are in the process of doing it and while it is daunting I am also excited and nervous. I think the pain part will come when I need to make sure my home is immaculate and I have two small kids.

It has taken me a month to do the following:
wash windows (17) - 2 hours
wash siding - 4 hours
weed flower beds - 3 hours
put down new mulch - 1 hour
pack 40 boxes of books, toys, and stuff - 15 hours
pack big toys and extra furniture - 1 hour
deep clean - 3 hours
touch up paint and patch removed hardware holes - 10 hours
have new carpets installed - 1 day (5 hours for the men to come do it)
shred all the paperwork that has accumulated - 4 hours

I have my kids home with me so I did a lot of this stuff on the weekends when DH was here to help with the kids. If you can take off of work or hire someone to do things it will take less time. I think it depends upon what you need to have done to your home to make it presentable.

I have donated about 8 white tall kitchen bags worth of clothing, 3 bags of toys, and 1 bag of books. I have thrown out about 10-15 bags worth of trash. Nothing beats wanting to move as a motivator for Spring cleaning.

This week I am interviewing realtors and I hope to have my house for sale by early next week.
