Health insurance / social security #??

So when/how do you get the LO their social security # once there born? Do you have to go down to social security office?

Can you enroll LO on your health insurance without the SS#? I wanted to enroll LO right away so there isnt problems with the insurance and drs office etc....but they ask for SS# on the forms so im wondering if you can just provide this later

I called my health insurance about this.
you have a certain amount of time to get the number.... and then they will backtrack the coverage.

You fill out the forms in the hospital for the birth certificate and SS#, and turn them in before you leave- the hospital will submit it for you. We got the SS card about two weeks after she was born. You can submit the paperwork without the number though, and provide it later, I believe,since it is for a newborn baby.

SS was through the hospital. We called health plan and told them the due date. We had 30 days from birth to call back and tell them the info

Check w/your health provider. Ours won't let us do anything until he is born.

you have the option to fill out the paperwork in the hospital...makes it 10x easier, and you get the birth certificate and SS card rather quickly....DS is 20 days old and we've gotten both already.
I believe you have 30 days to enroll the baby.
