spinoff to strollers -- city girls...
we live in the city and will either be staying in the city or moving to forest hills (although even then we would only be using a car occasionally)
We decided on the Uppababy vista but I'm wondering what else, if anything, we need to register for...
- umbrella stroller? (maclaran, etc) I see these all over the city. Worth registering for now and storying at a family member's house until baby needs it?
- carseats? (if we stay in the city we won't have a car, but there's always the occasional cab ride or ride with family in a car)
- I know that infant carseats can snap into the Uppababy but what about convertible carseats?
we don't need a "travel system' right?

Honestly - living in the city, IMO you need one GOOD stroller. Stick w/ the Upababy, or consider the Bugaboo -
You can easily transport either to the 'burbs when visiting friends or family - IMO a Mclaren is NOT fun on the city streets/sidewalks -
As for a carseat, all of my city living friends don't use one for cab rides ........theer's NO way you're lugging that thing down to hail a cab, installing it in the car, putting the kid into it - etc etc ...........
If you think you'll be out driving w/ friends/family often - I'd look for a carseat you can use from birth on ..........honestly not sure if they exist b/c I didn't have that dilema.

Re: spinoff to strollers -- city girls...
Thanks Marisa... that helps a lot.
So, we will probably hold off on the Maclaran (is a different umbrella stroller better or we'll really just want the Uppababy?)
If we are in Queens we will register for a carseat... if we stay in the city we may just get one to install in my parents' car for the times we drive with them...

Re: spinoff to strollers -- city girls...
We live in the city and got the uppababy vista. We are using my nephew's old car seat just to get home from the hospital but don't plan on using it much after that since we also don't have a car. I see no need for two strollers - just takes up space in our apartment!
The vista comes with a toddler seat and bassinet, and a rain shield for both. So need for an umbrella stroller.

We're getting the Bugaboo as well as the MacLaren...Reason Im registering for the MacLaren also is because its much lighter to transport on the subway vs. the buggaboo w/ the infant seat attached. (cant rely on elevators/escalators)
Id just rather have the 2 options, 1 heavy duty stroller and the other as an umbrella stroller.

I registered for both, the UppaBaby Vista and a Maclaren. I won't be doing as much city walking as you, but we do have the park minutes away and I am sure both strollers will get great use.
Here is my spinoff question to your question: Will they even discharge you from the hospital without an infant car seat to send the baby home in? I think you may have to register for one although you may not always need it.

Re: spinoff to strollers -- city girls...
also getting the uppababy and using the city mini with the carseat adaptor for the infant seat as my lightweight stroller, for things like subway rides. we live in queens and have a car so will definitely get a carseat.
i hesitated about 2 strollers, but i wanted a lighter one and the snap and go and maclaren just seem flimsy for the city streets.
