Re: Got the new Baby Bargains book

Can you look in the convertible car seats section for me and tell me how the Sunshine Radian seats did this year? I'm very curious about the top rated convertible seats and if they changed. I'm going to check out the blog too and see if there is new information since the new AAP recommendations just came out saying they want children rear-facing until 2 years now.

TIA!

PROS: Folds up. Works to 80lbs with five point harness. Great for airplane travel. EPS foam. Can use a tether rear facing.

CONS: Heavy weight. Biggest kids may find c r o t c h strap too tight. Not as ideal for kids under one year of age riding rear facing.

Comments - there was a lot written on how they manage to do the whole fold up thing. (they omit the base that is seen on most convertible seats, so the seat actually sits alomg the back of the vehicle seat). They mention how the XTSL model has side impact protection cushions that are height adjustable. They are very impressed with this seat and feel it gives Britax a run for its money. Most parent feedback has been positive. A handful of readers complained that the belts are harder to adjust than the Britax which is consisten with the governments ease of use rating.

Overall it got an A- Chat Icon

Re: Got the new Baby Bargains book

Thank you so much!!!!

I was just reading about how the Britax Roundabout 55 straps are nearly impossible to adjust! But the other versions are very easy. That's definitely something I want to test out before I drop $200+ on a convertible seat.

That's really interesting about how it sits along the back of the seat.

Now that the recommendation is rear facing until 2 years, I want something that will be usable for a LOOONG time, and I get the impression that this would be. DD is also really small (so far -- she's only 3 months) so I've got plenty of time to figure it out. I may just skip on using my registry completion coupon for a convertible seat now, and get one with a 20% off coupon in the future (Sunshine is not on the exclusions list!).

At first I was thinking about getting the Graco Myride 65 because I really like the snugride, but now I want something that may work rear facing even longer.

My step father was totally making fun of the new recs yesterday. He said "what are you going to do, drop your 12 year old middle school kid off at school riding in a booster seat in the car???" -- I said "well, if everyone else is, then YES!"

I've got 13 years to worry about that lol.

Thank you ns1011!! I have two old versions of Baby Bargains and I'm still waiting for the 2011 version! I'm in the middle of registering now, so I'm anxious to know how a few things have been rated this year!

Crib Mattress: do they still recommend the Colgate Classica foam mattress?
Do they mention the Colgate Classica II (instead of I) this time?

Crib Sheets: do they still recommend sheets from Land of Nod?

High Chair: what hair chairs received "A" ratings this time around? Do they still recommend the Fisher Price Space Saver?

Furniture: Has Bellini gone up in ratings yet? They only received a "C+" last time.

TIA for sharing with those of us who are still waiting for the new book!!!

Crib Mattress - Overall Colgate Classica rating went to a B+ but that was based on their pricing policy that prohibits it from being discounted online. As a result the Colgate Classica I has nearly doubled in price the past two years. They are astill rated hight for their foam mattress construction. There is no mention of the Classica II Chat Icon

Crib Sheets - While they still rate the Land of Nod bedding overall an A-, they do not specifically mention the sheets in the sheet section, neither good or bad. The one's they are giving props to are the Ultimate Crib Sheet and the Quick Zip crib sheet from Clouds and Stars.

High Chairs - FP Healthy Care, FP Space Saver and Boon Flair all received A's while the Jovvy Nook got an A-. The FP Healthy Care was considered the "best".

Bellini - They got a B-. No longer import from Italy (from China now). Delivery takes 12 weeks on average. Quality is good, but does that and the customer service justify the price premium? Reviews are mixed. Locations near Boca Raton Fl get good marks on customer service while locations in/near New York, not so much.
This last part I can personally vouch for - when DH and I went to "look" the lady folllowed us around the whole time and basically insulted me the entire time based on my opinions and wants/needs. She made us feel like we were some sort of rejects because I didn't like the design of the changing tables. No matter how much we told her we were just starting our furniture search and gathering ideas, she kept insisting we order right then and there to take advantage of the great deal she was going to give us. I stopped listening to her after about 10 minutes and poor DH was stuck humoring her until we could get out of there. (Not to mention she had bad breath Chat Icon ).

Let me know if there is anything else Chat Icon

Thanks so much for all of the great info!! Your personal experience with the bad breath Bellini lady is such a turn off! I hate when sales people are such stalkers like that!! Have you decided where you're going to get your furniture? I'm leaning towards Capretti Home. My friend bought Capretti furniture a couple years ago and everything is beautiful. The 2008 Baby Bargains book gave Capretti Home an "A" for cribs and furniture, but I heard that the rating is now a "B+". Does the latest Baby Bargains book say why the rating went down?

It says:

Quality wise, Capretti started out strong back in 2007 (we gave them an A) when their inital shipments met our quality standards. Yet Capretti soon struggled with one big problem: freight damage. Capretti furniture often arrived damaged, thanks to poor packing at their Asian plants. When you are paying $1,000+ for a crib, you expect it to be perfect.

Re: Got the new Baby Bargains book

FYI... I ordered my Baby Bargains book from Amazon on Wednesday and got it Thursday!!!

I've already deleted a few things from my registry that didn't have good ratings!!! GREAT book!!!

It was only 10 bucks and came right away, which is suprising since everything says it's not supposed to be available until April 21st! A full month early, it's in my hands! WAHOO!!
