Jewish Moms to Be...

What are your plans?
Are you having a shower?
Finding out the sex?
Getting stuff for the baby yet?

I always read on here about showers and getting stuff for the baby. With DS #1 we didn't get anything for the baby till he was here. We did get the furniture together. DId not have a shower, but I did a layette with Denny's.
We didn't find out the sex either

Obviously doing the same with #2, but I still love to hear about showers and what everyone is doing Chat Icon

I guess we were lucky with DS that we got pretty much everything within the first week. My parent's and IL's paid for the furniture so we picked that out and had it over a few weeks b4 DS was due.
DH's aunt bought us the bedding and my sister got the bassinet so they got us the most important stuff.
We did buy some small stuff to have like diapers, wipes, bottle, etc. Then got most at the hospital
At the Bris we got almost everything we needed.
You realize you don't need EVERYTHING right away anyway. Where to sleep, some clothes, clothes, bottles, etc.

I am having a shower - I don't like having everything in the house before, but I really wanted a shower so I am just having one.

We ordered the furniture this past weekend - it should come 1-3 weeks before my due date. Still need to order bedding.

We will buy some clothes and other necessities when it gets closer - probably 3-4 weeks before my due date.

ETA we found out the sex.

i am having a shower.
we are not finding out the sex.
i am on the fence about setting up the room and bringing stuff home. we already purchased the furniture but i am dont know if im going to wait til im in the hospital to have it delivered. we will probably paint and maybe do the walls.
im not very religious and DH is half Jewish half Catholic.. so in the end i wont be surprised if we end up setting stuff up early. but baby will be in our room at the beginning anyway so we CAN safely wait also.

I've felt strongly about this for a long time..dont know why, but...

No shower
Dont know the gender
Ordered furniture, being held
Nothing in the house until baby
Scrubbing is at my moms now and shell bring what's necessary...we just ordered diapers to her house as I am on bed rest and likely going to deliver early...

Re: Jewish Moms to Be...

Most likely we won't be having a shower. I know my work will throw me one but that's about it. We did find out the sex...Chat Icon !!!

As for setting up the room as of now we don't even know where we will be living so I won't order anything until we are settled in somewhere. If we are stuck in our tiny 1bedroom we'll prob make do with a co-sleeper or something for a little while. If we do move I will set the room up before the baby gets here.

Since we know we won't have to plan a Bris I'm looking into doing a baby naming so any help on that would be great!!!

Re: Jewish Moms to Be...

I'm Jewish but not super religious, my DH is not Jewish.

We found out the gender
I'm having a shower
we will likely store most things at my parents house before the baby comes but more because of space and because we plan to move before the baby comes
my MIL did run out and buy us a few things as soon as we announced our BFP which made me a little uncomfortable as I was only 5w, but I went and bought a few things myself after the gender was confirmed
We will have a bris Chat Icon

I plan to have a shower and to find out the gender but I am going to keep all gifts at my parents' house/inlaws' house until the baby comes.

Re: Jewish Moms to Be...

Not haveing a shower
Not finding out the sexes though I thought that to be more of a personal preference
Not getting anything for the babies yet.

Looking around my house you'd never know 2 babies are due in 2 months!
My sister had a shower after her baby was born. She said she was going to throw us a party after and I felt funny about that as if I'm just looking for gifts which I'm not and she said it's a good way for people to meet the babies. It won't be a huge party.

Cribs we'll order and have delivered and keep in garage. DH will assemble before we get home from hospital. Room is painted. And I asked my MIL to buy coming home outfit after we deliver that way I don't have to buy nuetral or double gender clothes and have to return one. Also we'll know what size to buy after they are born.

My mom felt bad for me and offered to keep things at her house if we should buy anything and she's more religious than we are. I'll get a couple of necessities prior to birth but not sure how early since twins sometimes come early. I'm playing that part by ear.

How exciting ! I can't wait to buy buy buy !! I have almost everything picked out !!!

Re: Jewish Moms to Be...

I don't have any plans to buy things before our LOs arrive. We'll register to make it easier for friends & family to buy things for after they arrive. And we'll order the furniture but have it on hold for delivery afterwards.

No shower. There's actually never been a baby shower in my family, except for my cousin's wife who wasn't Jewish.

I do want to find out the gender, especially since we're expecting 2! I don't think I could pick out 2 names for each gender - having a hard time as it is with that!

Re: Jewish Moms to Be...

I will be finding out the sex at my next appointment. I don't belong to a temple, and I really need to know if I need to line things up for a bris!

I am not having a shower, however. With the way I was raised, it just doesn't feel right to celebrate so much for an event that hasn't happened yet. However, I don't know how I feel about setting up a nursery (painting, assembling furniture, etc.). To me, that doesn't feel as "jinx-y" as having a whole party to celebrate a birth that hasn't happened yet. It just feels practical. So does registering - I know that people will want to get us gifts, so why not get what we want? No problem with that!

It's going to be hard for us - my mom died a few years ago, and my in-laws are both far away and pretty poor, so... we're really on our own in terms of getting stuff for the baby. I have to hope that other family / friends will help us out with stuff from our registry when the baby is born. Chat Icon

No shower (my mom would have a heart attack)

We found out the sex

We are going to get a few things before, but wont get them until the last few weeks. This whole part makes me very anxious and even waiting that long is more than I would like to, but I decided it is easier than dealing with our very superstitous families!
