Girls who work in the city but are delivering in LI
Do you have a plan as to what would happen if you went into labor at work?

no... thats a good question... i would assume that an ambulance would take me to the nearest hospital...
my brother works sorta close to me but neither of us drive in...
Shaun is usually in the city with his dad... he would have to take his dads work van and drive me the LIJ

i would assume that since its my first i have a lot of time once labor starts. in the off chance that i go into labor at work id prob just pay for a cab home or call my brother in law who works in the city and drives in to pick me up. although i am hoping to work from home more towards the end just in case...

Yes: Panic.
This is why my last day is at 38w ... because I can't imagine going into labor in the city. It actually makes me panic just to think about. Hopefully she stays in there until my due date!

I worked in the city when I was pregnant with DD and my commute home would be 1+ hour on the LIRR. I had no plan for getting there if I went into labor at work. and if DH came to get me, traffic would take longer than the LIRR. thankfully, my dr made me leave work at 36 w due to high blood pressure and the long commute.

Re: Girls who work in the city but are delivering in LI
I don't really have a plan, I should work on this. I do think, like a PP mentioned, that since it's my first I would have some time, but even the thought of having my water break at work and having contractions of any sort while waiting for the LIRR at Penn is horrifying!
As of right now I'm leaning towards using 2 weeks vacation prior to my due date, or working from home for those 2 weeks if they let me.
But I honestly can't imagine how awful commuting will be starting in mid-May (I'm due 6.22)

Re: Girls who work in the city but are delivering in LI
This one is a scheduled C - but the first one was not - My 'plan' should that happen, was to get car service to my hospital (N Shore Manhassett) ..........
I mean, what else can you realistically do?
Also, labor is NOT like in the movies - the odds of you going into labor and being in misearable pain and then delivering the baby w/in like, an hour - are slim to none.

With DS I did have a plan....but with this pregnancy it'll be a scheduled C/S so not so much.
With DS I planned to go to St. Lukes/Roosevelt hospital on 59th and 10th ave. because that's where my old OB delivers. At least he would know some of my history. Thankfully the Dr. took me out at 39 wks and I ended up haing a C/S at 41 wks.
