a really stupid question.
Ok, so....
Does your body decide it is time and then starts labor to get the baby out?
Or does the baby decide it's time, and then kicks off the labor?
Or is it a joint effort?
(i never paid attention in health class - can you tell?)

I believe something in the baby's brain goes off that stimulates labor.

Re: a really stupid question.
I am convinced that an internal exam I had a few days before my water broke was the "trigger" for me when I had DS#1. I had it on a Thursday and it was very uncomfortable. I was just shy of 39 weeks and not dilated. My water broke early Sunday morning of that weekend.
I could be wrong... but I think that was the start of labor for me.

I was wondering this myself!
While they still don't know for sure what causes labor to begin, there are several theories. Their source

Re: a really stupid question.
good question! i have NO clue... my water broke but i was not in labour...but DD came out quickly after pitocin started...so maybe she was finally ready to come out 5 days late and kicked my water to break it?
