Cruises

For those that have been on one:

1. We are now a family of 5. What size room do we really need to be in? Should we have one with a balcony, etc. or is it not necessary?

2. Do you recommend not going until the baby is 2 years old since most Camps are only 2 yrs and up?

3. Where on the ship is the best place to get a stateroom?

4. We will probably only be doing a shorter cruise. Any suggestions on those with kids?

5. What time of year is the best time to go?

Thanks!

Re: Cruises

I think most cruise lines to dropyour kid off at camp, they have to be three. NCL is 3 and I think RCL was also. I don't know about the other cruise lines. RCL has a parent/child bonding program I think for kids under 3. Norwegian has a family suite with 2 br that sleeps 5. It is really nice has a private pool/jacuzzi area and butler service. I go "off season" so I can get a pretty decent rate on the room. Good Luck, Have Fun!

Re: Cruises

We are a family of 5 as well and love to cruise. Unfortunately we can not all fit in one room any longer. The kids are too big! Chat Icon Chat Icon We usually get adjoining balcony rooms and open the divider. When they were smaller we would get an inside room. They didn't care so it was an easy way to save money, and your rarely in the room. I never cruised with a 2yo. My daughter was 4 on her first cruise and loved it. She went to the kids clubs on occasion, but not much. It wouldn't have bothered me to have her with me all day. Also, at that time we did Disney, which was incredible for that age. I highly recommend it!! And I try to get midship rooms, but you can ask your travel agent, they usually know the best place on the ships. Have fun!!

1. Balcony doesn't necessarily mean bigger. I'd say either a suite or some newer ships have "family rooms"

2. Camp Carnival starts at 2 years old.

3. I like the higher floors (deck 6 or higher) just watch out what is above the room and next to it. You don't want to have a room right below Lido or the dining rooms because there tends to be noise above.

4. Not sure about the other lines but I know that shorter cruises on Carnival tend to be on older ships but they usually get updates every few years.

5. I've found that the cheapest cruises are in September and January. September you have to just be prepared for itinerary changes if there is a hurricane. We cruised in December for our HM and I LOVED it because while we were sunning it up in the Caribbean, everyone back home was freezing! Chat Icon Chat Icon
