i'm a makeup reject
the irony is my mother has been selling avon since god was a child and makes herself up daily so beautifully. I put on powder foundation, eye shadow (even shade it on lid, crease and brow!) and lipstick at work in the am. By noon its all gone.
I only buy makeup made in the USA.
HELLLLPPPPPPPPP what am i doing wrong?

Re: i'm a makeup reject
Powder foundation never stays on my face either. I have been using concealer and then liquid foundation, and then loose powder over it and its finally lasting a few hours at least.
Eyeshadow stays only when I use certain things like a primer, a liquid shadow, or I use a colored eyeliner and smudge in on my lids to make it look like eyeshadow. It also matters what brand you use. Anything you can buy in a drug store never stays on my lids. I have had good results with MAC, Urban Decay and bare essentials eyeshadows.
Lipstick only stays when I fill in my whole lips with a pencil, but even then, its pretty short lived. I found a lip stain from benefit that has been working pretty well, its called posie I think? It can also be used as cheek stain.

Have you tried primers? Or hi-def makeup? I'll loom around for made in the USA that might help you.

Re: i'm a makeup reject
thanks ladies for the assist; maybe its because I am buying stuff in the drug stores; I don't know where the big name stuff is made but I'll have to find out.
I have a gf who wears MAC but she looks like Elvira so i'm a bit wary.

Re: i'm a makeup reject
You do NOT need to buy high end stuff to get it to stay!
There are plenty of drug store brands that'll hold but you need a good primer it sounds like in order to get it to stay..

I can se how that can happen with MAC, but they have normal colors too! And you don't need to wear everything they sell all at one time! MAC eyeshadows are the only ones that stay for me, but they are made in Canada--not sure about the rest of their stuff.
A primer can help others last longer though.
I think the key is to find products that work with your skin type. I don't find powder foundations to last long. Liquid foundation lasts longer. Revlon colorstay works well & it is made in the US with US & non-US components.
Pencil eyeliners don't work for me at all, so I use liquid or gel.
Lipstick doesn't last on anyone unless you get special longwearing lipstick. I like Revlon colorstay for this too.

I'm pretty sure Smashbox is made in the US. Sephora sells it and they have a website where you can get free samples with every order.

Is it the Dior skin Sculpt Concealer/eyeshadowbase? I am almsot out of my Urban Decay primer & want to try this next.
Usually Urban Decay primer + MAC eyeshadow lasts all day for me, but I bought some new MAC shadows that dissappeared today. It may be the particular colors.

Re: i'm a makeup reject
First, try using liquid foundation and then powder foundation/bronzer over top of it. It will stay put longer.
Another cool tip: After you're finished applying your makeup spray a little bit of hairspray on your face (I know it sounds weird, but it works!!!) You could wear your makeup for 2 days straight and it will still look like it did right after you applied it. It sort of locks the makeup in place. Just be sure to wash your face before bed

I'll check at home- I got the dior shadow too
I was using the mac paint pot and mac shadow and it was barely making it to 5pm

I don't like the paint pot as a primer. I am tempted to try Dior shadow--the palettes are so pretty--but I am afraid I'll love it.

tell me about it- I spent $250 at the dior counter by accident
I got the shadow pallet in the purples
the primer
some brushes
the airbrush make up- it covers the reddness I get in my cheeks
and she thru in a free full size lip gloss
and some lotion samples- which of course I love- so that's going to cost me $150 next time

Re: i'm a makeup reject
LOVE Dior makeup. I have a bunch of eyeshadow pallates from them. The other brand that I love are Chanel. Those shadows stay all day long and a little goes a long way.
I feel that if you find a pallate from Dior or Chanel or Mac or whatever and it has colors that you can use day or night, it's worth the money. Its not like people go through eyeshadow that quickly. I still believe that drugstore eyeshadow is crap, unless its a loose powder type. I have used them for years and until I started using better shadow, I never noticed the difference.

Re: i'm a makeup reject
I'm no good with make-up either. I can do the basics but it doesn't seem to last on me either.
I used Stacy Doolan of About Face Artistry to do my make-up for my TTD pics and my boudoir shoot. Now, she's thinking of holding make-up classes in her house! I'm hoping she does it. If you're interested, like her page on facebook!

Re: i'm a makeup reject
Def. get a face primer as well as a lid primer. I swear by Too faced shadow insurance eyelid primer. OMG..keeps eyeshadow on for the entire day without creasing. A face primer would work well on keeping your foundation on too. HTH

Re: i'm a makeup reject
Thanks for all the advice, keep it commin! I had a wake to go to tonight (yeah big fri nite out ) but i decided to try some of your tips. I did put on a liquid foundation and topped it with a creme like powder(?). That stayed pretty good. Eyeshadow I put on with brushes instead of the pads they give you, didn't stay too well. I put eyeliner and mascara that stayed.
Work in progress.
