Disability (pregnancy related)

Someone told me yesterday that I can file for disability after my maternity is over and still receive 80% of my paycheck... I highly doubt this is true- I tried to research it a little more but there isn't much information... What's the deal with disability- you have to have injured yourself or cannot physically return back to work in order to receive disability right?

From what I understood at the workshop, your payment options related to pregnancy (sick leave for it) run out after the 6 or 8 weeks...as for disability, if you had an extended bed rest or an UNRELATED to pregnancy injury, I'm thinking you are eligible for disability...from what I understood, this was not an easy thing to get and was not worth being "shady" about. I don't know how much you get paid on disability, however. It would be worth a call to the UFT or an email to the woman who runs the workshops-I found her very informative.
