any city girls or girls who commute
have you noticed that street people/panhandlers seem particularly kind to you. in the last few days I have had the following three things. .
- two men standing by the corner watch me try to walk over ice and say. . "oh careful momma, I got ya if you need an arm" and walk next to me, arms out but not touching while I went over this icy patch
- 2nd man asking for $ on the corner " watch out mother - it's real icy there - you take care okay"
- woman asking for money after seeing my belly " oh sorry - didn't see you were with child - god bless"
is there some pamphlet that says you can't ask preggos for money? I mean I know yes it's just human kindness but I have had more "street people" go out of their way to help me than others!

That's so sweet! I have not noticed this yet. The only people who are nicer to me are middle-aged women. A middle-aged man huffed and puffed on the subway the other day because I got to the open seat before him.

Yeah people are AWFUL on the subway. . I agree with you - middle aged women are the only ones who seem to care - and sometimes young men - especially young men of color. One of my preggo friends asks people for their seat but I don't have the attitude to do that. .

The MD I work with told me that when she was pregnant last year, she'd just go up to people with a desperate look in her eyes and say "Do you mind?" to get their seats ... she said you really have to shame them! I am not like that either, but I do stand sadly and stare into space if I do wind up standing. Sometimes people get the hint, most of the time they "don't see me."

They probably realize the preciousness of family and wish the best for you.
As far as the subway, I always say, pregnant women cure insomnia. As soon as I walk on the subway, everyone falls asleep immediately. Such a wierd phenomenon.

so sweet
Some people were SO sweet to me, when i was pg.
I buy fruit from a guy on the street and whatever I would buy, he would throw in something different "for the baby" it was so sweet!
And when i bought food from a cart (gross I know LOL) the guys would ask me "what does the baby want today!"

I haven't had people on the street comment yet but the way I am bundled up these days its not obvious I am pregnant.
I have had the deli worker and the pizza place people near my office being extra nice to me. Extra pickles with my sandwich, actually making a type of pizza I like special when they didn't have any left, and things like that. Its nice
