should I or shouldn't I....

I know this doesn't really belong here - but it's sort of on the topic of parenting.

I am thinking about Japanese straightening my hair. I have to blow it and iron it every day - it's so time consuming and in the summer it gets frizzy anyway.

I am worried about the damage and what it will be like when it grows out - BUT what I wouldn't do with that extra half an hour everyday - its like gold!!! it would be so great not to have to worry about it for the summer...esp. since I'll be going to the pool/beach with Talia all summer...

Thoughts? Advice...? I don't know what to do!

I have to do the same with my hair - I would do it!

ETA: check the NFR board - I've seen a few posts about good places to go. Also - I think BabyAvacado recently had it done.

do it I did and iloved it! it was about 3 years ago. However be very careful where you go I have heard horror stories. I did the bio-ionic or something like that I saw their certificate for it. I have also done relaxers before this one and it did not compare.

My thought? Put your hair in a ponytail and forget about it. LOL.

Oh wait, that wasn't one of the options.

I say go for it, sounds like it would make your life easier. Personally I don't understand where you find a half an hour a day as it is -- I'm lucky that I find time to brush my teeth.

I would love to have my hair japenese straightened so I would do it. Especially for the summer when your hair will get wet. It would be so nice to not have to worry about how your hair is going to dry up and not having to deal with the blow dryer and iron every day!

Re: should I or shouldn't I....

I have heard too many horror stories about women's hair breaking,. I just would rather straighten it myself. Too much money to be unsure about it. Plus every once in a while I like having options for my curly hair, I hear after you straighten it you have only the option to wear it straight. I heard it is really difficult to have it keep a curl with a roller or curling iron.

Ok sorry I'm posting again because after you brought it up yesterday I was thinking about it. The negative of having it done is when it is growing back. AS it grows back it is horrible to mantain. Your roots are curly and the rest of your hair is straight unless you keep doing it. I only did it once right before the summer. It was awesome for the summer but it was torture to grow back.

My hair is very very curly! I used to have to blow it first and then have to iron and it still was frizzy unles I had it done at the salon. However I found this $20 ceramic iron from Eckerd's (If you want the brand I will get it for you) and now I wash it and let it dry naturally overnight. In the morning with this iron I am done in 20 minutes! I am sure for you it will be easier because my hair is very unmanageale.

SORRY FOR THE LONG POST-I feel your pain curly hair is a mixed blessing.

Well...I'm biased because I did it. For the exact reasons you mentioned. I was spending soooo much time on my hair it was ridiculous. Being a working mom, I don't really have that time. Getting back those hours of my life every week has been wonderful!!

I don't know about the growing back in part yet, though. I'll worry about that later. For now I am enjoying how easy it is do my hair everyday. Chat Icon

If your roots grow in straight then DO IT! That was my only problem, no breakage at all.Chat Icon Good Luck
