B.Feeding once teeth come in...

Hi, I have been EBF since my DD was born...she is now 14 weeks old and I am anticipating her teeth and what to do about continuing to BF once they arrive...I really want to continue but dont want it to be a situation where she bites me and I dread each time she latches on.

She is a pretty feisty little thing so think once she has some choppers in there she will really go at it!!

Any advice? Should I start pumping and storing now or just give up when the teeth arrive and give formula?

TIA

Justin got his teeth late but if you are latched properly it shouldn't hurt. He will be 13 months tomorrow and has 6 teeth. He is just now starting to be a little stinker and bites me and the laughs. I didn't have a problem at all before this. I just sternly say" no..you are hurting mommy". It only happens after he is finished though.

ITA!!! You can continue to BF with teeth. Emma was 2 1/2 when she stopped and Jeremy is now 15 months old and still BFing. you are bound to become a teething tool for them when they are getting teeth. What worked for me was telling them "No, no biting, it hurts mommy" like you really mean it then taking away the booby, they are going to cry because you are going to startle them but then you can start feeding again. Baby will learn pretty quickly that biting will have their food taken away and stop. Good luck!

I am still BF Claire at 17 months and she went thru a biting phase, but the "no biting" worked after a few times, although sometimes she is just fresh and tries to bite, you can tell when it is coming though because they have move their tongue and change how they are latched on. 14 weeks is still young, I don't think it started till around 6-7 months.

well, teeth can come at anytime...but JMO I think you still have some time. DS is 22 weeks and still no sign of teeth. He is doing a lot of drooling and all, but no teeth. I believe the 1st two teeth to come in are the bottom two. So if your baby curles her togue around the nipple when sucking, you should still be safe. It will when the top ones arrive that I would be concered. I know that is how I feel as a BF Mommy.

I BF till Damien was 22 months. He bit me once, and only once and I screamed so loud(just by reaction, not on purpose) it scared the crap out of him and he never did it again. I think they understand the emotion of your words. I have never met a woman who stopped because they were constantly being bitChat Icon
