Bermuda Experts..help with things to do

DH & I are taking a much needed cruise to Bermuda & are looking into things to do. We've been told to nix the ship's excursions & get the ferry or bus pass on the island & come/go as we want.

Just wanted to hear the things we shouldn't miss OR the things we can do without.

(No kiddos, just DH & I).

We're there for 3 days.

St. George is a quaint town with shops and some restaurants.
Horseshoe beach was really nice also.

We never did any of the excursions either and just took taxis or walked wherever we wanted to go.

Hey Cin!

It's been FOREVER since I've been to Bermuda. Last time I went was after HS some friends and I went as our grad gift.

I do remember there are a lot of BEAUTIFUL beaches. One that had pink sand. Just spend the day there. Enjoy some drinks and relax. I remember snorkeling was fun. Other than that... relax and enjoy the time. It's only a few days so take advantage. Chat Icon Chat Icon

Hartley's Helmet Diving. It's usually a ship excursion but I know he takes others.

We are going on a cruise to Bermuda for the first time. On Tues in St George and Wed. in Hamilton they have a Harbor Nights festival with music and booths. It sounds really cool.

That does sound cool. What ship are you on? When? (you can fm me if you want)

That sounds fun above.

The Helmet Diving sounds cool too.

Re: Bermuda Experts..help with things to do

2 years ago today we were on NCL Dawn to Bermuda. We did not pay for their excursions.
We took the kids to the aquarium/zoo. We went to Horseshoe Bay Beach. We went to lunch and dinner in town, went shopping in town. We went to a fair in Hamilton one night. We took the bus and the ferry, ferry is MUCH faster.
We LOVE Bermuda.

Re: Bermuda Experts..help with things to do

We went to Bermuda this past may as a party of 13 on the Celebrity Summit.

I would go to cruisecritic.com and look at their Bermuda boards.

When your ferry docs I would get off of the boat and get a 2 or 3 day pass, run to the tourism office and get a map and then stand in line for the ferry you want. The schedule varies for weekend/week day.

St. George looks a little dated. There are some really beautiful beaches and a fort there. We liked our lunch at the White Horse. At noon they have "the dunking." A re-enactment of dunking a nag. There is not much to do in St. George itself. We took a trolley tour, which was cute. The Perfumery and unfinished church are also in St. George.

We loved Hamilton. There is a lot of nice stores to visit, and if you are in the market for jewelery, Crissons on Front Street offers about 20-30% off of what US retail stores give. I got a stunning blue topaz ring from them.

I highly recommend having High/Afternoon tea at the Fairmont Hamilton Princess Hotel in Hamilton. It is some of the best food/drink I have ever had. Plus they have champagne this year because it is an anniversary.

I saw on some show this place called the caves, I am not sure which hotel it is affiliated with, but you can have dinner on the beach. It may be a Fairmont thing, because it looked like that was in the background. It looked extremely romantic.

I would got to Horseshoe Bay beach. There are ammenities there.

Many people recommend the Helmut Dive and that is supposed to be fantastic. I would spend some time at the Dockyards. There is a glass maker and rum cake shoppe, which is really yummy. The glass is expensive, but nice. I have a cue dish from them but it was $40 for something really small. There is also a cute ceramics place in the dockyards.

I would absolutely make time to go to the Crystal caves and the Swizzle Inn.

Re: Bermuda Experts..help with things to do

I am just off the summit, and had a wonderful time!!!!!

We did something really cool, and we had the best time, we rented our own boat, about a 15 foot, and just sailed around the island
it was great, they give you a cooler, you can bring your snorkels, and anchor off the beach.

We rented the boat for 4 hours, but you can do it longer if you want. You should call ahead of time, to reserve your boat, and pay over the phone. that is what we did, because it gets really filled up.

We also did the Jet Ski's as well, which is an hour and really fun

We did Helmut Diving too!!!! it was really cool, the guy who runs it Greg is really funny, and has all his fish trained!!!! And you get really cool pics while you are down there!

Here is the website for where we booked our boat rental and jet ski tour!
