Inground Pool

So, my hubby and I are pretty close to purchasing our first home (scary, yet exciting!).

We found a house we're interested in that has an inground pool. I was just looking for some insight into the estimated costs we could expect to pay to run, open, close the pool, etc.

Any info you have would be helpful.

would you get someone in weekly or woud you maintain?


We have a big pool, so opening is $250 +$150 in chemicals and "what nots" closing is $250.


during the season, we have a slightly increased water bill (but that's also the sprinklers). increase in LIPA bill (but that's also a/c)

chemicals, for us, are about $200, but we are getting a new filter this summer, so that should go down.

The biggest deciding factor will be if you decide to maintain it yourself or have someone do it for you.

We have someone open/close it and do the weekly maintenance ourselves.

Opening/closing is abou $200 each. We have an aquabot that we use to clean the pool - it is a big upfront expense, but WELL worth every penny. I want to say that they are around $800. Since we use this, it saves us vaccuuming time and the expense of having someone come and do it.

My mom has the aquabot too but has someone come and just do her chemicals for $30 a week.

We do our own chemicals and it runs about $200 for the season.

We pay $300 to open the pool but that includes $60 to open the heater. (Not sure why the heater needs to be "opened" but my hubby and I know nothing about maintaining the pool.) Chemicals are not that much every year, maybe $100 - $150. Closing is probably around $300 as well.

ditto to the aquabot! It is well worth it! he does everything!
