Have to share these desserts from our anniversary!
OMG!
Thank you to Erica who recommended Bertrand at Mister A's for our anniversary dinner! The food was incredible.
We started off with crusty bread served with warm butter and sea salt. Then had a classic caesar salad with eggplant & olive tapenade crostini while DH had seared ahi. For our main courses, I had the most delicious paella that brought me right back to our trip to Spain! DH had a nice angus steak au poivre with an adorable potato napolean and truffle oil french fries.
But dessert.... ahhhhh, dessert
Ice cream sliders! How fun is this? Housemade vanilla ice cream sandwiched between two chocolate chip cookies served with "apple fries" (apples, flash-fried and sprinkled with cinnamon sugar and served with a fleur de sel caramel dipping sauce!) A fun play on sliders & fries for summer And they brought an adorable "happy anniversary" plate. DH had a perfect creme brulee too! We wayyyy overindulged, and while my diet isn't... my heart and stomach are saying THANK YOU!!!

Re: Have to share these desserts from our anniversary!
musts are definitely fish tacos - DH must have these in SD, it's the only place where I've tasted them and almost melted into the floor b/c they are so amazing.
And I think mexican food - really good mexican food. We will need all meals out and we're staying near Downtown... or is it Balboa Park? don't remember, he booked it.
any really yummy foods - we like it all, including really good sushi! We'll be there four days.
Thanks

Fish tacos - wahoos is the place! it's more of a fast-food style place. you order & take your own food to the table, KWIM? but the food is super fresh!
Mexican food - that's a toughie! There are a ton of great places but my DH isn't too big on Mexican so we hardly ever get it. My favorite place is Casa de Pico but it's far from where you'll be staying. Try Old Town!
Italian food - Buon Appetito is a great choice for dinner! Their bolognese is awesome as well as their steak with gorgonzola sauce! Don't forget to get dessert! They have great cannolis, tiramisu, and strawberry napolean! RIght next door to that is an awesome place (by the same owners) for lunch - with good wine & appetizers and great panini.
Sushi - Cafe Japengo IF you go next Friday, we'll be there! Fridays 4-7, Saturdays 4-7 and Sundays all night they have great happy hour specials at the bar and outside patio. If you see a blonde waitress, her name is Jessie and tell her you know Hayley & Steve! She is awesome... They can be pricey if you don't do happy hour and sit at a regular table... but it's definitely worth it! Try the banana tempura for dessert!
Less expensive sushi is Zen 5. They have great sushi there too! Lots of fun rolls (try the specials!) and not too pricey at all.. especially for happy hour!
Cafe Japengo is in a little place called "The Aventine" and they also have The Melting Pot (not a fan, but I know people love it), a good seafood place, Trulucks (can't link it because it's blocked at work - pricey too), an awesome steak place, Flemmings also pricey.... but if you go, try the lobster tempura, house potatoes, and lava cake for dessert!
Make sure you don't miss Extraordinary Desserts which is just the best place ever! As good as it's name!
Cute lunch place is Gordon Biersch (can't link cause it's blocked at work) but they have awesome burgers and garlic fries!
Let me know if you need any other suggestions!
