Do I need a steriliser if puming occasionally?

Hi, at the moment I am EBF but plan on getting a pump soon. Do I need a steriliser considering I will be only using a bottle in emergencies and am really pumping so I have a supply when my DD gets teeth!! If I dont BF when DD is 6 mths how many bottles a day would she need from stored milk?

Also what did you find to be the best bottles to transition from BF to bottle?

Thanks a lotChat Icon

I never used a sterilizer. I used hot water. I only boiled hot water to sterilize before the first time I used things and then only once in a while. I think a sterilizer is unnecessary. I used Playtex Nurser bottles with NaturaLatch silicone nipples when I introduced the bottle and I had absolutely no problems. Good luck!

If you are planning to pump yourself up a supply (like I did) make sure you read Kellymom.com because all of the EBM in my freezer is bad.

I also used the Playtex silicone nipples and the drop in liner bottles.
I used the Medela microwave bags to sterlize. I also had the wipes for while I was at work.
Molly, who was bottle feed bm for a year, needed 5-8 bottles, depending on the day, age, feeding amounts etc... I only used the ziplock type bm bags. The medela ones stink.

Sorry I should elaborate, but I had baby in my lap. I pumped a BUTTLOAD of milk and froze it, but when I defrosted it, most of it was rancid. It has something to do with lipases in my milk. (baby is back in my lap now...)
It was a real disappointment as I froze lots of milk
