Are we out of the recession???

Are people falling all over themselves to have yardwork done? Like patios, landscape design, retaining walls, etc?

I filled out a form for Long Island Landscape Design - they called me back to schedule an appt. I scheduled it for 7pm this evening.

Just on a fluke, I called them (it's obv a guy's cell phone), this is our convo:

Me: "I just want to confirm our appt for tonight at 7pm, I get out of work at 6:30, so I just want to make sure you'll be there at 7".

Him: "Uuuuuuuuuuuh, I guess so, I mean, it is what it is."

Me: "I will be there before 7, I just didn't want you to show up at 6:30 or something."

Him: "That is what I was planning on doing, uh, so I guess so, I mean it is what it is."

Me: "Never mind, cancel our appointment, I'll go over our schedules with my husband and we'll call you back."

Him: "no, no, I mean, I was planning on being there."

Me: "Yeah, uhhhhhhh, never mind, I call you back."

You just lost the opportunity for a pretty big job buddy, way to go.

I am ****** too b/c my schedule is tight as it is - I would have rather scheduled an appt with a company that actually gives a damn.

poor customer service that is for sure. I'm sure there is someone else out there that will want your business!

I notice this is the attitude with a lot of construction/home improvement companies. They cancel appointments, don't show, etc. Just recently we had our fence done. We booked with a company b/c they said they could do the job by June 1st. They ended up doing it on the 26th!

My DH knows this but "it is what it is" is my LEAST favorite express...I always feel that people use it when they don't want to think of another solution to a problem...I just notice that people use it WAAAAAYYYY to much!

I'm totally with you, and agree that a lot of vendors are like that. I've had similar experiences with plumbers, a handyman, patio installers, landscapers (the worst!) and gutter installers. So flakey, I hate it.

Its one of the reasons I love LIF because I can get good information here so we reward the people who do the right thing.

I hope you find someone reliable!

By the way, "it is what it is" is also one of my LEAST favorite expressions. It seems to have replaced "whatever" when people just don't know what else to say. I'd rather they just stop talking instead.

see that is the kicker, jobs are still low, houses are not selling, market is eh so technically the country is in a recession. I feel though individuals on LI are just investing in their homes more because they can not sell them so they might as well fix them to their tastes.

I know I found it hard to get anyone to come out now to give estimates but when we closed in November everyone was knocking on our door.

this is the same story with ALMOST EVERY company like this right now. I called 9 different companies. I had guys showing up when we didn't even set up a time, we had people show up hours late with no call to tell us they were running late, I have had one guy cancel our appointment 5 times, I finally gave up on him. I just found a really good company. He actually had a clue about stuff when he came to my house! It was so annoying though! I get that they are busy, but where the heck is your customer service?!?!

I can't believe that you guys have been having the same issues!!! I'm SHOCKED!!

I am in a customer svc business as well as my BIL - and I know we don't treat customers that way. So weird!

We were recently looking into building a home and one of the "vendors" I spoke with was SO RUDE! I was asking general questions, I do not know what I am talking about it is YOUR job as the professional to steer me in the right direction and explain it.

He was basically laughing at me bc I did not know things about building homes suffice to say he won't be getting my business.

Sorry you had to deal with that. I think that people who do not understand that how you relate to your customer is probably one of the most important factors are only hurting themselves, ya know?
