I've been to Scotland loads of time, where are you looking to go? Not been to NI but I hear great things about it.

I've only been to the Republic of Ireland -- if you change your mind and decide to go there, I'd be happy to give you tons of ideas! Chat Icon

ive been to Edinburgh twice and highly recommend- such a great city :) and you can easily take day trips out to the highlands.

if i could afford it, id spend a day or two at glen eagles, too.

I've been to Glasgow, Dundee and Aberdeen and all were great. Dundee is a little run down now, but the people were very nice. Edinburgh is more touristy and, from what my parents tell me, the people are not as welcoming.

As for NI, I have been to Belfast and Donegal. Both are very different places. I was in Belfast years ago when the peace process was not in place and, while there are things to see there, I wouldn't have recommended it at that time. Donegal is beautiful and very unspoilt.

I've been to Northern Ireland. I would recommend Belfast for sure. Definitely good for a day or too. Some nice museums and so interesting to check out the murals throughout the city that showcase the city's turmoils between Catholic and Protestant. Also, Co. Antrim is beautiful and you must do the Giant's Causeway. Derry is also a nice city, but you probably wouldn't need more than a day there. Overall, most of Northern Ireland is full of small villages - it's fairly rural except for the bigger towns like Belfast, Derry, Omagh, Tyrone. Also, I agree with ODonnell about Donegal. ( I LOVE it there... hence the username Chat Icon ) but it is not technically in the North of Ireland. It is very close to Derry and not too far form Belfast, but in terms of government and currency, it is in the Republic of Ireland and uses the Euro (Northern Ireland is part of the UK and uses sterling).

Re: Anyone ever go to Scotland or Northern Ireland

I've been to Scotland...Loved Edinburgh - yes, it was touristy but really nice and lots of history and things to do.

Glasgow was not that nice...more of a modern, shopping city. Didn't think there was really much to do there.

We actually stayed in a little town called Aberfeldy in the country...the Dewars Whiskey Factory was there (I was pregnant at the time so didn't get to taste anything) but if you can, the countryside is really beautiful to see. We drove up to Loch ness too. Really pretty towns to see that way.
