Panic attack: House warming ?
Umm I feel like a FOOL
I know what they are, of course. I have never been to one really. I think one was just kinda a party at a house type thing and I was much younger.
My coworker tells me "Your floors look great, can't wait for the house warming party"
the wha, wha?
I think I heard my brain implode.
I never fully unpacked from NY and I know i have tons of stuff to still sort through. I haven't even started to move in yet! Of course I like people to visit but in small groups. I think I'm freaking at the idea of so many people being in my small home at once.
Dont they dig through closets etc? Why do they want to come to my home? What do I do? She says its great they bring gifts and stuff and I know I need lots of small home stuff.
so.. now that I'm done hyperventilating .....
How does one prepare for a house warming, what's expected??
I feel silly but I asked my coworker who brought it to my attnetion if she could help since I'm clueless

Re: Panic attack: House warming ?
It's just a party. People don't go digging through your things. You can give a tour if you like but it's not required. Some food, some beverages, some friends. It doesn't need to be fancy and you don't have to have one because your co-worker suggested that you have one.

Re: Panic attack: House warming ?
you just throw a party to celebrate/show off your new home.
We didn't even have one when we bought this place ebcause I didn't want people messing things up!
People don't go through your shite-- it's just the "theme" of the party, you are celebrating your new house is all.

Re: Panic attack: House warming ?
Its totally not a necessity. And im sure even if you dont have one, but have some of your friends over for the first time they will most likely bring you a gift or ask you what they can get you. Its a little congratulatory thing for your new place. And if you do have one..you can cater or get some heros and alcohol. Nothing crazy. I think some people even register so they dont get crappy unusable gifts lol.

Re: Panic attack: House warming ?
thank you
seriously... THANK YOU
I feel better now. I can handle small groups of people so I'll invite them over in turns. With AJ it makes it easier to toss them out too
Phew... I felt like I missed the new homeowner etiquette manual or something.

Nah... you point out the things you painted and plans for this wall kind of stuff. They don't step more than two feet into a room unless you invite them.
