Potty training

When did you start to train your DS/DD? Cassidy is only 15 months, but she is showing signs of being ready to potty train. She tells us as soon as she poops so we can change her diaper, and sometimes she'll hide while she's pooping.
I bought a potty today, but I don't want to push it if it's too soon. Any advice?

Re: Potty training

ITs really so hard to judge. I know kids that were trained by 20months, and those that were trained by 4 Chat Icon

It really varies from child to child. THey say to follow his/her cues, introduce her to the potty if you feel she is showing signs, have her sit on it, etc.

Re: Potty training

I introduced it when Sammy was about 18 months but really didnt start training until he was almost three. He had no desire or interest. Once Sam turned three it was down to business but being at summer camp set him back. Sammy told me, "When we move into our house I will go on the potty" and HE DID. It took about 3 months and he was trained with a few accidents . NO MORE DIAPERS for him . I still havent figured out nights though he always wakes up wet.Chat Icon

IMO you can only introduce the potty when they are ready to will go

Re: Potty training

My son also had no interest till he turned 3. and we never made a big deal or stressed about it.
He has totally potty trained with VERY little effort on our part, its really all been his own will, his own doing. ALmost overnite Chat Icon Chat Icon He went from one week to the next almost cold turkey. quite shocking.
Going in public places, waking up dry, etc.

SO it was well worth the wait for us Chat Icon

Re: Potty training

My son showed zero interest until he turned 3 and he trained really quick and easy after that. My daughter has witnessed the whole process and has definitely shown interest for a few months - starting at 17-18 months (shes 21 months now). She pulls down her pants and says "pee potty" or "poop potty" and will actually pee in the potty (no poop yet) But its just been too hard for me to devote the energy to it being preggo - we have a split and our bathroom is upstairs and just the whole undressing process...I can certainly see how there's a huge difference with training a 3 yr old vs. a 1 1/2 yr old and the physical part of it. My son was able to undress and dress himself and get up and down off the potty too. Not that Im waiting till shes 3 though - definitely going to revisit it after the new baby comes.

I guess Ive discouraged it but I definitely wouldnt if I wasnt pg. If shes showing interest, I dont see anything wrong with getting her a potty and allowing her to become familiar. Youre obviously not going to harass her or get mad if she has accidents so I dont think you should worry about it being too much for her. God bless if she trains early for you.
