Recco for a rabbit repellent that works
We have a lot of rabbits around and last year, they took a liking to some of my plants. Namely my Black Eyed Susans and Purple Coneflower.
I was able to catch it early, before they ate all the top growth and asked my local nursery for a natural repellent. I bought Plantskydd but it contains actual dried blood, looks like blood when you spray it on, and smells horrible. That's the point for deer, rabbits etc - repelling them with the smell.
So I went looking for another product and found this:
I bought one small spray bottle and tried it on the worst damage - the Black Eyed Susans. It's been a month and they haven't had any other damage, so I bought another large bottle for everything else.
It lasts up to 30 days, smells good, has no color change to plants, doesn't harm mine as long as I don't apply in direct sun (there's oil in it that can burn so I wait till evening to apply), and it works!
As plants grow, you will have to spray the newest growth, especially considering that's what rabbits like - the new soft leaves. But spending 10 minutes spraying once every week is much better to me than losing leaves and plants!
I got mine from Borellas Nursery in St. James. I'd call places first, because I really don't know how popular it is in places like Home Depot or Lowes.

Re: Recco for a rabbit repellent that works
Send your bunnies over to our yard! For the first 6 years we had lots of bunnies in the neighborhood and we loved them but the past few years they have been gone. All our neighbors have mentioned the same thing - no bunnies. It may be due to the ferral cats in the area, but I'd also read that the growing racoon population in Nassau and Suffolk have been cutting down on the bunny population since they go after the baby bunnies.
