Cotton Diapers
We had some women come around at our baby group this morning offering a one month trial of Cotton Diapers. About 30% of the girls in my baby group already use them and love them, another handful use a combination of throw aways and reusables, and the rest just use pampers. In our area, the council will pay for part of the use of these and as its Real Nappy Week here in Manchester, they are pushing them.
So what are your thoughts?
I would love to say that I would use them, but I am too lazy.

Re: Cotton Diapers
I answered never because I tried them and after two pee diapers I was grossed out so I couldn't imagine doing it with a poo. I know tons of moms here in CO that use cloth and they don't use a diaper service either. I have to admit their are so many cute cloth diapers these days and they don't use pins or anything so they are way easy but the gross factor just got to me.

Re: Cotton Diapers
my friend is really into Green Peace and is an advocate. You would never know that her 2 children wore cloth diapers. She had a system down and it worked for her.
I would like to try it.

Re: Cotton Diapers
I was interested in them but with daycare I decided it was not going to work at all. There is also a pretty big upfront investment to purchase everything. I am not sure if there is a real cost saving to them. I am also convienced that you can wash them at home in hot enough water. I would want them sterlized in a commerical laundry service. I am not against them at all, but I would want to test them before committing to them.

Re: Cotton Diapers
I was going to use cloth diapers until I found out that there are no diaper services on LI. I wanted them to be cleaned properly, which requires a lot more work than my crappy machine can handle.

Re: Cotton Diapers
I was one of those babies that my poor parents had no choice to use cloth diapers. I was allergic to all the disposables available at the time(I was born in 76). They did have a diaper service.
BUT no way would I use them, I worry about the environment, but if you look at my baby pics I still always had a rash, and I leaked through them.. NOt sure if that's still the case, but I give it to my parents! Plus i was potty trained at 4!!

Re: Cotton Diapers
I was also allergic to disposable diapers. I am soooo afraid that my baby will also be allergic and I will be forced to use cloth. I don't have a washing machine

Re: Cotton Diapers
I generally think of it as being a PITA but my mom used them with my sister and I was 10 when she was born, and I don't remember it being all that bad. We had this guy from General Diaper Service who came once a week and picked them up and dropped off a new bag. I think I'd consider it if the price was right, but most likely I'd stick with disposables.

Re: Cotton Diapers
I always thought I would use cloth diapers since I try to do my part regarding the environment, but when the time came I didn't. I use the disposables but maybe for the next one I might consider using the cloth.
