Taxes plus Villiage Taxes

Alot of listings in LI list Taxes plus Villiage Taxes. I live in queens so I have no idea what villiage taxes are. What do they cover?

I'm not sure about all other villages, but my village (Malverne) has their own police department and sanitation. In addition they have events through out the year like a Christmas lighting, Easter Egg hunt, parades, Groundhog Celebration. I'm sure it pays for other stuff too but its mainly the police and sanitation.

Re: Taxes plus Villiage Taxes

we are in the village of Amityville and we have our own police, tree lighting, 4th of July fair, we have a village beach just for people who live in the village and they offer free swim lessons over the summer and 50 dollar sailing lessons, plus a whole lot of other summer activities for the kids. The village, instead of the town, cares for the landscaping, street sweeping, garbage removal, tree trimming, etc. I find that because we don't rely on the town that things get done a lot quicker, for example, the big storm in March that knocked down a bunch of trees, our trees were cleaned up in no time where as in Copiague (also in the town of Babylon) they had the town of Babylon clean up their trees who also had to do every other town within Babylon so it took twice as long. Same in the winter with snow removal, we have the plow down the block the second the snow hits and the streets are cleared in no time.
