Need help with an Ant problem
When we moved in to our house back in August I noticed that there were quite a few of the small ants especially in the kitchen and bathroom. We bought those ultrasonic deterrents that you plug into an outlet and a bunch of those simple black traps, it seemed to do the trick. until the weather started getting warmer. We started seeing a lot of them. I started using torro about a month ago. Its a poison bait that they eat and take back to the colony and then they all die. there are so many of them on the bait that it makes me cry and they are still going strong. We can only find one place they will come to (in my kitchen of course ) but now I am seeing evidence that it might be the entire back of the house. I would really like to try to fix this on our own but I dont know what to do. We sprayed the outside of the house. But I am afraid to spray the inside because it wont kill the colony, they will just be living and reproducing in my walls. is there anything we can do to wipe out the colony or should I throw in the towel and call an exterminator. TIA!!!!!

Re: Need help with an Ant problem
we had aunts in our house like 2 summers ago - it was disgusting, they were running inbetween the floorboards on a spot where our hardword floor separated a little bit, we used the poison traps, I could take how many were coming - I started vaccuming them up and then I sprayed all over the place with this stuff called HOT SHOT it was an indoor insecticide spray I got from home depot and they all started dying and they never came back ever since...
It might have been "ortho" that I used - or hot shot can't remember but it def worked, just look for it in home depot and should say on it for ants...

Re: Need help with an Ant problem
A non-toxic remedy is diatomaceous earth. It is basically made up of ground up fossilized water plants. What it does it coat the ants (and other bugs) that crawl thru it and rips their skins so that they die by dehydration. Spread a line under your kitchen door and around the outside of the house, especially basement windows.
It is completely safe to use around children and pets, as it contains no chemicals.
