Possible move to North Carolina
My husband and I are considering a move to NC. I'm a teacher and I'm in danger of losing my job this year. It is incredibly difficult to find a teaching job these days (even with my master's). I applied to the Wake County school district to see what happens. I am confident I can get a teaching job down there. My husband got laid off and is in accounting/finance/banking. He is wondering how difficult it is to get a job for himself. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!

Re: Possible move to North Carolina
Well good luck with the move! I just wanted to let you know that I am a teacher too. I considered a move to NC too,.. but the job market is tough down there. I applied to Wake about 2 years ago. Although if you have a specialty area it is easier,... they are laying of teachers too. Also, they do not have unions so there is a huge difference in work load from school to school.
I do wish you the best of luck!

Re: Possible move to North Carolina
I got laid off last year. I looked into Wake schools but last year they were on a hiring freeze.
We moved down to Summerville, SC (outside of Charleston).
I got a teaching job (they need certain area teachers) but the accounting market stinks down here. (My husband is an accountant)
We are actually moving back to NY in June, as my husband got a great offer back in NY.
I myself know I probably wont have a teaching job next year in NY so I am thinking of going back into accounting myself.

Re: Possible move to North Carolina
My brother moved to NC last year and it took his GF almost a year to get a job in accounting. He was working in LI and would go back and forth for over 6 months b/c he couldn't find work. As hard as its been for them they have no desire of moving back to NY. Good luck!

I think right now is a tough time for teachers everywhere! I would stay put! Do you
have any seniority? I am assuming you don't have tenure. MrsRiviera is a teacher in NC, I would FM her.

Re: Possible move to North Carolina
Teaching is definitely a tough market around here these days. Hiring freezes and layoffs abound.
Finance is getting a little better-some firms are hiring.

Re: Possible move to North Carolina
I live in Cary right outside of Raleigh. I am not sure about teaching but there are a decent amount of finance jobs. I would check indeed.com, trianglehelpwanted.com for this area. For finance you'd probably be better in Charlotte(many more big banks) The area I live is considered more of a high tech area

Re: Possible move to North Carolina
We are contemplating a move to Charlotte, and there seems to be tons of accounting jobs on careerbuilder. I applied for some and got tons of calls but when I didn't know when we would exactly be there they told me to call when I had a time frame. I have no idea what the teacher market is but I do know that my SIL was a teacher in Kannapolis, outside of Charlotte and her pay was very low.
