PODS?
Anyone else find them realllllly expensive? I called for a price quote and I am blown away. I feel like its way to much money!
to have 1 12 ft container dropped at my house in northport, we fill it up they pick it up and drop off in port jeff, then pick it back up, all within 1 month its $502.46
the delivery fee is 94.99 rental for 1 month $159.99 relocate to port jeff $112.31 final pickup $103.18 sales tax was the remaining amount
to get a 16 ft it was $545.91 the only amount to the break down that changed was the monthly rental fee which went up to $199
I don't know how much movers are, but for such a small amount of stuff I can't imagine paying over $500 and have to do it all myself!!
I am going to try and call SAM today and see what they charge (same type of container just through mayflower)
Anyone have any advice??

Re: PODS?
We have 2 PODS sitting in front of our house. We pay $221 for each. I have had one since september 09 and the other since october 09.
I didnt want them to take it to their warehouse and store it because I knew they charge you a lot more. I have 2 16 footers. Scott

thanks for the info Scott. The prices I listed above are for me to store it not them I believe the longer you keep it, the lower the monthly rate is. I don't think the $159.99 I was quoted was a lot. I do think the pick up and move and pickup again fee is a lot though

It's not as expensive as you think.
It's only $89 plus tax for what they would call a "round trip" delivery to their storage facility. So when I get a POD delivered, I pay to have them deliver it to my house obviously (that's one trip). Then if I want to keep it in their storage and off my property, I pay another $89.
There is no additional monthly fee to keep it there as opposed to my property. And if I need to get items from my POD, I just call them up and make arrangements with them. I go to their warehouse in Melville, and they will have my POD ready for me to access and pull stuff out of. No charge for this and I can get stuff out of there as much as I want.
I'll probably have two PODs when I start my dormer (I already have one for my Rental). I will probably keep both in storage while my contractors are working. We'll see.
I don't think they are that expensive either. I pay like $220 a month for my 16 footer. A comparable storage space in a storage facility will cost about the same. There are coupons you can use if you reserve online too!

Re: PODS?
so compore your cost, time, energy spent in bring all your stuff down to a storage place. While it is more, the time/labor involved in keeping your stuff someplace will be worth it for a few more bucks.

in that case I would go with the POD
it's means you only have to pack it once
rather the rent a truck $$$, move it to storage $$$, rent a truck to take it to the new place- plus all the time
if you don't use a truck- how many trips would you have to take (and I am assuming you have furniture)
I would think it is both cost and time effective to get a pod

we can't not rent a truck it would take us forever, we have a decent amount of stuff. enought to fill a 12 or 16 ft container.
thanks everyone i think we will be calling them tomorrow

Re: PODS?
We actually did that for the move from NY to NJ and it was worth it for us, except we paid closer to $800 and it was one month. It was still cheaper than what either a rental truck or movers would have been. Plus we closed on the house we were selling before the one we were buying so we had no where to store the stuff.
We were very happy with it. We had the POD at our house for a week, they stored it for a week or two then delivered it to NJ.
