Re: cabinets w/pic
what's weird about this is the rails on the side (that's what the vertical strips are called) are darker than the stiles on the top & bottom- usually it's the other way around as the top & bottom stiles are the short grain of the wood, and short grain absorbs the stain more than than the grain used for the rails. Unless, of course, the manufacturer is using the short grain for the rails- which is strange.
With that said, yes there is some variation from each piece of wood- but that's a pretty big difference and I know that my dad would never ship something to a customer that looked like that.
However, he uses select maple and most companies (not even Kraftmade's higher end cabinets) do not.
With select maple you'd have less variation from door to door, cabinet to cabinet.. but what you are supposed to do, when the manufacturer is putting these together, is put similar shaded doors together so there is a nice flow...
with that said- I'm not crazy about that look, but I have seen that in kitchens and it isn't terrible- although that type of variation within the door I typically have seen in the shaker style- not what you are showing below, which is a tongue-and-groove construction raised panel w/ ogee bevel.
