I HATE ALL OF THIS (and a question)

My story:
Regular poster, in hiding,
DH:32
ME:32
Both healthy, non-smokers yahta yahta yahta

Unexplained Infertility
We tried the natural way for over a year, closer to 2. Using OPKs for maybe 8 of those months. Finally made an apt w/ Dr. B (thanks to all you ladies). Ran every test under the sun. My lady bits are great, even called my tubes "beautiful", DH SA is great. This is where we start to Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon
Not to sound like a TTC cliche, but really, I spent my whole life AVOIDING pregnancy and now, well you ladies know the story.
I took Femara Cd3-Cd7
Ovidrel Shot CD 11
IUI CD12 and CD13
So my question is, when would you ladies test? and for those suffering from unexplained infertility, how many IUI's have you done before moving on to IVF?

I hate not being able to go the bathroom anytime I want, hate having to hold till I think ill explode, I HATE the BFN's every month, I hate women who say things like, if my hubby even looks at me I get knocked up, that’s great GET OUT OF MY FACE, I hate the evasive procedures that I must have in order to do the most natural thing in the world, I hate the look on my DH face when I have to tell him, yet again, its not our month, I could go on 4e, but I will stop, because I know all you ladies know exactly what is in my head and heart right now.

Re: I HATE ALL OF THIS (and a question)

I am in pretty much the same boat as you. I can't beleive I'm reaching almost 2 1/2 years. Its seriously rediculous. I have been told everything is great with both DH and I.....there really is no rhyme or reason for not getting pregnant b/c it's pretty much unknown.

After wasting 3 months at a previous RE over a year ago and 3 IUI's, I felt like I was getting nowhere and went to see Dr. B after taking a break for a year. All results came back normal except my immune levels were significantly high. But.....he got them down to normal and still didnt get pregnant so I'm not even sure my elevaed NK cells were the reasons for me not getting pregnant for the past 2 years. I guess time will tell.

Did your immune/genetic etc. etc blood results come back normal as well?

It's just a wait and see game I guess. I'm not sure how many IUI's I plan on doing......but I'm willing to do enough of them before thinking about the bigger step.

GL to you! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

welcome Chat Icon

hey, your SN looks familiar! Chat Icon

I would wait until at least 12 DPIUI, preferably 14 DPIUI - which would be about CD 24-26.

I also have unexplained IF. We did our first medicated IUI (injectables) and it was BFN. We planned on doing 1-2 more, but in our next cycle... I ended up having too many eggs so we converted to IVF.

Best of luck to you! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

First off - Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

If you triggered on the 15th, then you O'd 24-36 hours later. To be on the safe side let's say you O'd closer to the 36 hour mark, that would make your O day be the 17th - so today would make you 9dpo. For me, that's to early to test - for others, that's when they start.

If you don't want to see BFN after BFN then I would try to hold off at least a few days. If you want to test before your Beta, I would do it when you're at least 12dpo - so Monday 3/1 with FMU.

From what I know, progesterone won't change when you can test, but it will delay AF if you aren't pregnant.

DH and I are dealing with MF issues - so it's REALLY hard for me to go to him month after month to say that yet again AF has arrived. I feel so bad for him sometimes - but he seems to deal (although I'm not quite sure how) We're just starting our 2nd IUI cycle, and haven't discussed how many we'll do before moving on to IVF, although personally I would only want to do 6 at the most.

Good Luck to you !!!!Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Thank you all for your responses and Chat Icon as disgustingly hard as this is, its VERY comforting to know you all are here for support.

This whole process scares the beejesus out of me, but specifically IVF, I feel like that is "The" Final frontier and if that fails, then

I shudder to think it. I've read, most RE's suggest 3 IUIs, after that, statistics don't really improve much. So I guess I will TRY to take it one day, one IUI at a time.

Re: I HATE ALL OF THIS (and a question)

Welcome and i hope your stay on this board is short!

As for testing, I never test anymore. I've been seeing an RE for 5 months now and I have put everything in their hands. I no longer temp, use OPKs or HPTs. They do plenty of sonos and blood work and know what's going on. And honestly, it's very freeing! Having said that, I really couldn't take the disappoinment of a BFN both on a HPT and a beta.

Good luck to you!!Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: I HATE ALL OF THIS (and a question)

I would probably start testing on CD24 or 25. The progesterone will delay AF but will not change the outcome of the test.

This is a very frustrating place to be. I was actually happy when we were diagnosed with a problem because at least it gives some answers. I can't imagine how frustrated you must be.

After finding out what our issues were, I decided one IUI was enough and moved straight to IVF. If it had been unexplained I think I would go for the recommended 3 or 4 IUIs before moving to IVF. IVF was hard, don't get me wrong, but if you do end up in that place you will get thru it.

I hope that your stay here is short! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

IVF is really not that bad. At least it wasn't for me. I was really scared about the entire process at first but once I got started and finished I was amazed at how easy it was. Of course everyone has a different story but for me the fear was much worse than the actual procedure. I hope you don't even have to consider IVF and get pregnant on your first IUI. First of all, Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon .

We were diagnosed with unexplained secondary infertility. We got PG on the 2nd IUI with Clomid. If the second IUI didn't work I probably would have moved to IVF, but my insurance covers it so our budget was not an issue.

Re: I HATE ALL OF THIS (and a question)

Unexplained secondary infertility over here. I can relate to every single fear and hate you have expressed. It's THE worst thing ever!

So far I've had 3 IUIs (almost at the end of my 2ww for #3). Two medicated (Clomid), one natural (I had a cyst from the Clomid). If this one didn't work (GOD HOW I PRAY IT DID!!! Chat Icon ), we will do one more round of medicated IUI (which may or may not be next month, depending on cyst situation!) and the move on from there. Not sure WHERE we'll move to - maybe injectables? IVF? (which scares the CR*P out of me!). I dunno ... this whole journey is the worst and one I hope ends sooner than later. For ALL of us! Re: I HATE ALL OF THIS (and a question)

Not sure about when to test. But wanted to say it is so hard, DH and I tried for almost 2 years, which I know isn't even that long compared to some, but its the hardest thing and the disappointment each month. Just hang in there, it will happen and I'm sure you hate hearing that too - but you have to keep faith. We did 5 rousd of IUI (4 with clomid and 1 with injectibles - Follistim) - it was our 5th one that did it and we now have a beautiful baby boy.

Hang in there and use this board to get you through it all!
