Are moving companies really expensive?

I guess it depends on how much crap you have.

I counted: 23 boxes (square) and 5 tall boxes.

A buffet table, dining room table, china cabinet.

One bedroom set.

One sectional couch.

That's it.

We are thinking of doing a U-HAUL but how much money are the moving people, in reality??

FM Cindy/Kevin. They used a moving company when they moved from their apt to their house that they recommended.

We rented a large truck from Ramp Ford (cheaper than UHAUL) and asked our friends to help move our large items and paid them in food and good company.

I highly recommend We Haul All, they moved us twice for under $600 for a 1 bedroom apt. The movers were so pleasant and funny as can be.

Added: we had about as much stuff, but it was 3 years ago.

I paid about $700 to move a 2BR apt to a townhouse 2.5 years ago. It was a 40 mile move and the townhouse is tall with a ton of stairs.

Hiring movers is the best splurge you'll ever do! Do it if you can afford it.

Moving is the pits.

I'd never ask my friends to help, because I wouldn't want to have to pay back the favor one day It just stinks.

My friend used Men on the Move- I think that they work with penske or something because she rented the truck and drove it- they did all the heavy lifting/moving though- I will email her and see how much it was

we paid 1K to move a two bedroom apartment in the same town. We added one extra stop at my parents who live two mins away from apartment/house to get our washer and drying and other stuff.
