I think most doctors start them around 37 weeks, but my doctors didn't believe in starting them until 39 weeks since they said it won't change their management of you anyway. In all honesty, I didn't think they were that bad at all. It depended on the doctor doing it though. Some I barely felt and others I got a really crampy feeling.
