Re: Over the stove microwave
i need one of these.
do you know if yours is vented outside, or just it just suck up then blow it out the top? (it basically recirculates the air).

Re: Over the stove microwave
I asked on another home msgboard about these and got mixed reviews. We have one and it does a decent job of cleaning/recirculating the air. (We didn't want to vent it directly out of the roof because we plan on remodeling the kitchen and I didn't want to have to repair the roof down the road when we relocate the appliances.)
Do you clean/change your filters?

Re: Over the stove microwave
The over the stove microwaves rarely vent outside, so all they do is try and filter some of the smoke. I've found them less than adequate for most uses.

don't most come with a kit so that you can vent outside?
Ours did, we just opted to recirculate as opposed to do a direct vent outside, but I'm also not a big cooker and usually have a window open anyway.

Re: Over the stove microwave
my parents did that when they just renovated the kitchen, i personally hate it. It it WAY too high up so when you have to take something out that is heavy you all most drop it. If the stove is on you lean over it and burn yourself.
As far as a vent my parents have it vent outside and it works okay not the same as a real vent.

Re: Over the stove microwave
Our stove and above micro are on an inside wall and thus unable to vent to the outside.
If it gets smokey, I turn the fan on and open our porch sliding door and that helps.

Re: Over the stove microwave
It recirculates. It came with a kit to vent outside but I would have to get rid of the top cabnet and didnt want to.
