How do you do your outside lights & decorations?

I'm looking for ideas and inspiration on what we can do with our house that we haven't thought of yet.

Last year, I strung white lights on some shrubs I have lining the front of my house - they're shaped like Christmas trees and it looked cute. But we definitely didn't have enough lights.

This year, we were thinking of getting more pvc garland that looks like this:



To run along the side fence, with nicer garland like this and lights for the front picket section:






Then lighting the three windows in the front and the door/stoop. Hang a pretty wreath on each fence gate to the backyard. Get red ribbons and "wrap" each of the shutters since they're green already. Lastly, we would decorate our birch tree, wrapping colored lights up the trunk and around some of the larger branches:



And I have this in red which I'm going to wrap lights or sparkly garland around to make it stand out more:



When it comes to lights on the house, we don't like hanging from the gutters so we try to make an impact in other ways. If you have any other suggestions, I'd love to hear it!

We have four posts in front of our house (eventually we're getting a porch put on so for now it's just wooden posts that we painted white) - I'm wrapping them in red ribbon from the dollar store - so they look like candy canes.

So these four posts run the length of the front of my house. Two of them flank our stoop right now - we got two angels to put in front of them.

We have a fence like yours that borders our neighbors property - it runs perpendicular to the street. We strung garland and I'm going to get dollar store red and white bows to hang from the garland - at the bottom of the swag. In front of each post on that fence we're going to stand a toy soldier - you know those old school soldiers that everyone had? We're on the lookout for those.

We have a little tree in our front yard - we stuck lighted candy canes in a ring around the tree - and right in front of the tree is a little snowman holding a "Merry Christmas" sign.

We got a set of walkway lights (the white spiral Christmas trees) - set of 5 - on each side of our walkway...

We outlined all of our windows in lights. We have some LED snowflakes, a gingerbread man, and some trees in our DR window, our Christmas tree and Santa and Mrs Claus are in our LR window.

When it's all done - I'll take a pic...

We're doing ours now. We have a wreath with a red bow on every window with a candle at the bottom of the window. Then we have pine garland with pine cones around the door lit with white lights and a big lit wreath high above the door. I'll post pics when we finish.

DH didnt want to put any lights on the house so we did all of our bushes with the net lighting. Got the candy cane stakes for the walk way. @ dear and light up branches for the lawn and lighted garland for the banisters. We even put a green lightbulb in our porch light and battery operated candles in all the windows. We were very excited considering it is our 1st Xmas in our house

We got Outdoor 3M Command strip hooks that are supposed to come off easily.

I'm more worried about them staying up.

I had something similar, I don't think that was it though, for a coathook and it fell off in a week!

this is our first year in our new house,

we will probably do the icicle lights bc that is what we have,
and i bought a 6ft white spiral lighted tree for the front and
netlights for the other trees in the front
and i also got some candy canes to either line the walk way or to hang in the empty trees, i have 2 trees that lose all their leaves and i personally never think lights look right on them, so i am thinking the candy canes, but we will see.....
plus inside i have snowflake lights to put in the 2 large front windows

and we got a wreath at costco to hang by the front door and a big red bow for on the front door

I was JUST thinking about you and wondering about how they were. I found cheap plain wreaths at Michaels last night and a ton of decorations for them, so I think we're making our own.

All white lights, outlining the frame of the house.

We also have a wreath on the door and a snowman sign that says North Pole this way :)

And this on our front lawn ....

(The deers move!!! LOL)

Here's what we did (excuse the lack of landscaping...long story!!! )

It's all multi-colored lights and the wreath is 60" and placed between two windows.

We also have a 6' sleigh that we need to paint and place out front.


My father also picked up a small set of lights for the kids which has Santa and his 8 reindeer, so those are out their on display for the kiddies enjoyment.


And in the back, we have ceramic C-9s strung along the roof line (it lights up the whole porch. )

looks so pretty! what did u use to hang the stuff over the garage door...we have something similar and i like how it looks over your garage door...how did u put it up?
