Can someone tell me what the style is this season?

I went shopping over the weekend for a dress for my son's Christening and OMG, the crap they had out. Everything was super sheer or see through (which is not condusive to someone's body who just had a baby a couple of months ago...and let's face it, I'm no Heidi Klum ) or had ruffles all over or lots of sequins
