Going to the same place to eat over and over?
Ugh! Do you ever find yourself going to the same restaurants over and over again? Well, tonight DH said lets go somewhere different - we were so busy last week and this weekend that Monday night became our night out together! So, instead of the usual suspects we tried a new place (new to us) - H20 in Smithtown. I've never been there for dinner. And it was not good. I mean, we spent a good amount of money for dinner and it was just OK - the appetizer was tasty but not hot enough. My soup was not good at all and my dinner was just OK. DH had sushi that he liked. All in all, a very mediocre experience.
As we left, we looked at each other and basically said THIS is why we always go to the same places!! You worry that where you choose won't be that good and you leave unsatisfied. So, you go to the 'sure thing'. Thanks for the vent. At least the conversation was nice.
Anyone have some great places in Smithtown I can keep in mind for next time? Maybe there will be one in the bunch we haven't tried yet and we can branch out to.

I agree I hate trying new places for that reason. Even when its not about the $$ I even hate trying new take out places. if I am hungry and in the mood for my favorite meal from a certain place and then I get that same meal elsewhere and it just doesnt compare i get annoyed!!!

Sorry to hear that you had a bad experience at H20. I've been there a a bunch of times and had good times there (except one time the valet gave my keys to another customer but that's the valets issue, not the restaurant). I would call the manager and tell them your complaints. For the price you pay there it is worth it.

Re: Going to the same place to eat over and over?
I enjoy trying new places. Sometimes I am disappointed - but I usually give a place a 2nd chance before marking them off forever. I remember going to La Tavola in Sayville when it first opened and really thinking that it was less than adequate. I went back and LOVED it.. it's one of my favorite places now.
I really enjoyed when I went to H2O - the Millenium Lobster was crazy good and the sushi was fantastic.
I wish I could help with restaurants near you - but I'm drawing a blannnnk.

Re: Going to the same place to eat over and over?
DH & I love trying new places. I don't like frequenting the same resturants, I start to get sick of their food & than don't want to go there ever.
If you don't try for yourself, how will you know if you don't like it or not?
We don't rely on peoples opinions of places because there were plenty of places people recommended that they loved & we were disgusted by - vice versa.
Perfect example - we went to grab some pizza at Grimaldi's in Douglaston last weekend. We never ate there before, a few friends raved about it. We were just ehh with it. Nothing spectacular, my mom makes better pizza. Plus it was overpriced. Scratch that place off our list.

I'm the opposite; I love trying new places. If I get a bad meal, I don't go back. But I do get bored of eating at the same places "just because" I'm afraid to go somewhere else, KWIM?

Re: Going to the same place to eat over and over?
That's the problem - DH and I DO get sick of the old places after a while, it is just that you worry the new one won't be good and then it is a waste of money. The other thing with trying new places is that DH and I don't get to go out to eat all that often so when we do, we want it to be 'worth it' or we feel like it was a big waste.

DH and I aren't fans of H20 - If we are going to go out without the kids (rare) we try to go to Vintage, a steakhouse in St. James, 21 Main (another steakhouse) in Sayville or somewhere in Port Jeff which has tons of selection.
