Finally!!!!! a bit long
We are homeowners!!!! It's been a loooong road (We've been in conract since June 1st!!) but we closed last night and got the keys.
The sellers were SOOO NASTY!! They didn't acknowledge us when they walked in, refused to compensate for work that was supposed to have been done in a "workmanlike manor" that was basically slapped together (I'll post pics later to show you what I mean) called us penny pinching a**holes under her breath, wanted to remove things fromthe house (that should have been gone already) when we weren't there (Umm- no- you took our downpayment, we want the keys- NOW!), and in the end left the room and didn't even come back in for their things (their attorney came in and got it)
Then- our realtor went into the other room to wish them good luck and the woman wouldn't shake his hand and said "I don't even want to speak with you."
I'm not sure what all the animosity is about- but I feel bad for this woman's children to have to live with her. So nasty!! We were just laughing about it because it was soooo unbelievable!
They basically got away with everything- shoddy work, never painting something they were supposed to to guarantee our FHA loan (our realtor paid painters to go over there and do it), dented appliances, everything- but still- we're the bad guys!
There are more issues we lost out on- but that's another story.
 
There was one snafu on our part- our attorney told us we didn't need bank checks- just our personal checkbook- which sounded odd- but we figured he knew what he was talking about. We DID need bank checks and DH had to race to the bank to get them 15 minutes before they closed. Then they gave us the wrong amounts and we overpaid by $6000.  We have to wait for our attorney to refund it back to us.
It was a stressful night- but after 3.5 hours of heII we got the keys!!
Now we have a ton of cosmetic work to do- but it's soooo exciting!!!!

Keri......CONGRATS! I know it's been a long road, to say the least, but now it's yours. Can't wait to see what you do to your new Home! Now enjoy the decorating process.  Take lots of pics. I'm so happy for you.

(Okay, maybe that's illegal----return it to the sender if nothing else.)
I hope they come knocking on your door to get something from the house---refuse access.

That they were like that when they bought the house Which is BS because -1- They renovated the kitchen after they bought the house and -2- they weren't dented when we originally looked at the house. We saw it 3 times- someone would've noticed- plus you can't see the dent in any of the MLS pics.

Congratulations!!! You definitely waited a long time.
I'm sorry your experience wasn't good BUT it is over and now you can do whatever you want to whatever you feel like.
Have fun decorating. I stink at it so it's overwhelming for me.

Was this a short sale or foreclosure? Is that why the sellers were nasty? I knew someone who lost her house to foreclosure and was so bitter to the new owners that she wanted to rip the cabinets off the walls in the kitchen and take all the plumbing fixtures out  . Bunch of losers.

Welcome to the wonderful world of Real Estate. Now you know why us Realtors always have a crazy look on our faces. (lol !!!!) I have been to so many closings where the buyer and seller can not even be in the same room for the closing, and most times it is over something so small.
The good part is that now the house is yours and you will forget all about this whole incident in a few months from now. Now it will be all about you making new memories within those walls!!! Enjoy and Best Wishes.

ITA. Especially since they were nasty, I wouldn't put it past them to have an extra key you didn't get, or do something to the outside of the house.

That stinks that they were so rude to you, seems there was no reason for it!
