Are you at that point?
We just had the house we want inspected...next we are going to contract. I have no clue what's next after that.

Once you have a closing date you have to call LIPA national grid (if applicable) water company and advise them that you are the owner as of X date. YOu may also want to call verizon or cablevision to set up a date to come to the house as it can take a little while to get a date. I would also call your insurance company and advise them of the date you will be closing so they can bind your insurance for that date.

Yes, thank goodness, we have actually been in contract for about 2 and half months..so long.

The electric/water is turned on in your name on the closing date. Cable/phone usually comes afterwards (since you have to be there to let them in).

Water/LIPA/National Grid will just change the bill to your name. For cable & phone I would call them now to set up an appt for after the closing date so that you can have them come pretty close to the day you close since it can take a week to get them to come.

I didn't bother calling LIPA or water until AFTER the closing. We knew we weren't getting possession of the house for a couple of days. We waited until we had a firm "move out" date from the sellers.
But you will need homeowners insurance in order to close, so call and get that taken care of.
