Just set a budget for each item, Mortgage, Utilities, Food, Etc. Mortgage will depend on your taxes, mortgage amt.

Re: "housely" monthly expenses....
We spend $3000 on the mortgage, that includes property tax and home owners insurance. Electric is about $150/ mo. Gas is about $100/mo for summer, $300/mo for winter (we have a gas dryer) Cable, internet & phone is $125/mo Two cell phones are $119/ mo. Two car payments $550/ mo. Two car insurance $111/ mo Gas for 2 vehicles $450/ mo Groceries about $400/ mo Home security monitoring fee $29/ mo Exterminator $25/ mo
Added a few misc. items: DH's college loan $110/ mo. We have 2 dogs, we spend about $50/ mo for food and toys. That's not including vet visits. We also financed a lawn mower. That's $39/mo. Throw in $300/ mo for house and vehicle maintenace. We go to Home Depot at least once a week. We spend about $400/ mo for entertainment and dining out. Duh! I forgot the water bill after reading the post below. Water is $35 every 3 months. We don't have an irrigation system. We don't buy bottle water much. Just purified tap water. Holy sh*t! That explains why we have nothing left at the end of the month.
That's all I can think of for now. I'll add to the list as I remember them because I know I am missing a few.

Neither did either of us and DH's commission is way down. UGH! Like I said..very depressing. It's hard to do any home improvements when you want to keep your emergency fund intact.

Re: "housely" monthly expenses....
I'll put my figures in:
We spend $2600 on the mortgage, that includes property tax and home owners insurance. Electric is about $250/ mo. (we use crazy electric though - CAC in the summer and hot tub in the winter)
I burn about 700 gallons of oil a year (so about $160 a month on average at $2.60 a gallon)
Cable, internet & phone is $125/mo
Two PDA cell phones are $160/ mo.
Two car insurance $180/ mo
Gas for 2 vehicles $400/ mo
Groceries about $350/ mo
Home security monitoring fee $35/ mo
Water is about $30-40 a month on average with IGS (expensive AQUA)
We pay a landscaper about $35 a week (which includes any special treatments) from April thru November
We spend approximately $200 a month dining out (we like to eat out)
We used to have two car payments of $500 each, but we recently paid down both cars (it's so nice to not have any car payments).
