Cat and Balcony
We are going to be soon living in a second floor condo. At first I was excited because anytime that Sushi wanted to get some sun, i could open the sliding door and let her go out on the balcony. Now I'm getting a little anxious. Do cats know their height limitations? Do you think my crazy kitty would attempt to jump off the balcony (its about a 12 foot drop). My other concern is perhaps she would attempt to jump up on the railing. What if she overshot it? Its enough to give me a panic attack thinking about it
Here's what the balcony looks like. It's not a picture of our actual unit so it wouldnt have all those plants and stuff out there but it will have a very similar table and a gas grill

Re: Cat and Balcony
Do not let your cat go out on the balcony at all. Cats will jump and do not know their height limits.
What you can do is purchase wire tubing to attach to the terrace door so you cat can walk through that and be protected while "walking" outside.
I think kitty the stray has it for her cats. Try fm'ing her on more info about it. Or you go to Petco and see if they have it.

Re: Cat and Balcony
You need to get the cage or netting for them
I let my guys out with out it and I turned my back for a second and my maggie was about to jump thru the railings (she had her head inbetween the rails)
I need to get the netting this week!

Re: Cat and Balcony
here is a pic of our 2nd floor deck:

i have the same concerns as you do about jumping up on the railing.... Miller has NEVER attempted to jump up on this railing, HOWEVER i only let him on the deck if me or DH is out there so we can keep an eye on him!

Re: Cat and Balcony
Oh yeah that makes me nervous... I wouldn't let my cat out there without revamping it somehow to make it safer for her.

Re: Cat and Balcony
My cat is crazy and if I opened the slider, he would be out, and would have probably jumped to his death. We just keep the slider open for him & that is enough for his fresh air.
